    Default 2 X geforce 6600's vs 1 X 6800GS?

Configuring a computer that comes with two(2) 6600's and it's actually $21 more to switch it to a single 6800GS. Which would be better? Applications is just gaming, no CAD or anything.

It should be cheaper, because you'd also be able to switch to a non-SLI board. In any case, the GS should outperform the 6600s.

The 6800 would out perform 2 6600, but i think, correct me if i am wrong yawg, but with AA and AF turned up, the 6600 would have more stable FPS.

Maybe if they're both 256MB or something, but probably not. It would really need two 6600GTs for performance to be comparable. If you remember, it took two to overtake a 6800 Ultra, which is just a little better than a GS.

Good info guys thanks. It looks to me like the 6800GS is the best bang for the buck card so far.

next question: If I add a second 6800GS in the future (since it's an SLI system). Will the video performace actually double sorta buying yourself a lot more time before the system gets outdated?

I didn't know the 6800gs was SLi capable, but SLi does not double your framerates...it would give you like a 20-30 percent fps increase i think, but when AA and AF are turned on the fps generally keep the same compared to one card.

Depends on the game and on the rest of your hardware. A 20-90% increase in framerates is possible. With the hardware you're looking at, you could expect a 50% increase in performance in most games, assuming you continued to use the same processor and amount of RAM.

Two Vmodded 6600GT's in SLI are faster than any 6800 series card, but that takes alot of skill an patience to mod them and get it all running. A better buy is definitely a 6800GS with the possibility of upgrade in the future by adding another.

Thanks again for the feedback. Now to run two video cards, the only thing I need is any SLI motherboard, correct?
