I would think audigy is a solution for musicians who need the midi connectivity and i/o versatility that goes beyond ordinary sound cards, without forking out the big ones for high-end pro stuff. for gamers and designers, etc, you would definitely need to be an audiophile to upgrade from a sblive card. apparently extigy offers similar options for less.

I'd personally go for the Audigy over the Extigy for a couple reasons:

    1. Firewire. I do a little bit of video editing, so having the firewire port there would save me heaps of time. Also, at work there's a firewire external HDD, which could be handy for transfering stuff to / from work.

    2. Advanced EAX thingy. Better environmental sounds.. Nicer merging of effects. Lots of fun.

    3. Don't need external if it's only gonna be on 1 PC...

Or even more useful - firewire networking. Mmmmmm.......400Mbps.

I've heard that if you're really into music, you don't wanna go Creative but better opt for a terratec soundcard. With that in mind changing from a Live! to a Audigy! is not wise.

If you just want a card that is good use for everything, the audigy problably will be slightly better dan the Live! card.

I have a very old sounblaster live! gold card. Since this card also has de EMU10K1 processor and all the connectors the Audigy has, I have no plans into changing it.

If I'll change anything, I will be looking for 3D sound which creative doesn't have, but is great in games.
Or I will be looking for a specialistic music card.

    Audigy!

    Creative mentions that the
new EMU10K2 is about 4 times
    faster over the old EMU10K1,
    and it supports EAX 3
(EAX Advanced HD) and it's quite
    impressive! Thats the difference :)

But if I wasn't that much of a audiophile
I wouldn't go for the audigy..

I beleive Creative is pulling another Nvidia and VIA on the public. The EMU10K2 is nothing more then a renamed EMU10K1 its just beefed up..Same thing goes for the KT333 and the KT400....... Its nothing more then a beefed up KT266A.....just like Nvidia with there Geforce 4's....its only a super overclocked gefoce 3 with some extra graphic affects other then that.....Its all the same

The audigy can't do a lot of tricks more that the live!. But it's price tag is accordingly substantial higher.

Is it worth it? For the average Jon Doe, I don't think so.
For the high end Midi user? I Don't think so.
    For everybody in between, maybe.

Just don't let them lure you into buying too expensive equipment.

I've heard this card only during gameplay. And it did not improve my gaming experience that much. Considering I am playing a game and not purely listening to the sound, I decided it wasn't worth the upgrade.
