Default a dead mouse in computer

    Hey dudes,

I just bought a 19" CRT from a local comp shop, it came with no mauals or anything, but I really love it all ready. I was reading the forum when out of the blue I heard a hi pitched noise coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the monitor, I couldnt pinpoint it because it was soo high and human ears can detect the position of low frequency better than hi, and this was hi. it died away after about 30 seconds, mind you that this monitor is from 2002. I also have about 25 days to return it if it breaks or if I dont want it. I'm not sure if this is the monitor or the computer.
    thanks for your time,
    BJF
Post Scriptus: I will be out of touch for the next five days, forgive me for not being prompt.

It is normal for a CRT to emit a high-pitched whine. Some are quieter than others. It won't get any better, so if it bothers you, take it back.

I thinks i will, I looked on the back and it was made in November of 2002, so it doesnt have long to live. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a 20" and up CRT or LCD because at about that size and up the price is relatively the same. I will have about 200 dollars USD to spend but I would like to save some of it. If I have to I will pay more than 200 though.

CRTs live MUCH longer than 4 years. CRTs live longer than your average cat. If there's something wrong with it, it has nothing to do with it's age. I'd return it anyway, since there's obviously something wrong with it, but don't think for one second that it should be on its last throes at the age of four.

I have a 17" dell crt monitor that does that, too. It appears to be the same thing going on. I've had it for a year and it has always done that. It hasn't died yet. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thumbs up Re: a dead mouse in computer

    Hi,

I think I got you guys beat. I have a CRT monitor currently hooked up to my HP E-PC C10 computer that I built. It's a Packard Bell monitor and I had it since 1992. It was from my first computer, which was a 50MHz Packard Bell desktop that I bought at Wal-Mart . That computer is long gone, but I kept the monitor when I bought my eMachine . I even used it when I bought my last desktop (it's a Dell ). About the squeal you're hearing, I never got any squeal with my CRT .
