Default How do you like your widescreen monitor?

If you have a widescreen monitor why and what size? I am thinking about a 22" Samsung. Any recommendations?

I have the Dell 24" Widescreen and I LOVE IT! Those 22" models are nice and many of them are cheap. I believe they are using TN type panels instead of TFT, but the only major difference is the viewing angle is alot smaller for TN.

If you do a lot of gaming, I would hesitate to suggest wide screens. It's rather rare for games to properly support wide screen resolutions, especially the native resolutions of larger windscreens. It's hard enough getting the widely popular 1240x1024 (although it's becoming increasingly more common). Playing at anything other than the native resolution on LCDs is usually just not worth it.

But if gaming isn't a high priority, or you get a monitor that can 'box in' non-native resolutions, then the extra desktop real estate is always welcome.

Tuxfreak i dont know what your talking about. I have a dell 24 inch with a resolution of 1920 by 1200 and every single game that is less than two years old supports native resolution. I fact I have only come across one or two games that dont support it, ever. Even games that are 3 or 4 years old will support these resolutions. Even if a game doesn't support it "natively" you can almost almost modify the info file to allow it to support it. The biggest problem with large widescreen monitors is having enough computer power to drive them at native resolution with decent frame rates. Play a game at 1920 by 1200 and you will never want to use anything else.

I have a monitor running 1920x1200 in the next room and less than a 3rd of the games I own run natively on it, and I own quite a few games.

Most if not all games are native 1920X1200 or can be cracked to run 1920X1200. Doesn't take much work and they all do it with almost no issues. As meesta_sparkle says, the biggest problem with widescreen gaming is having the power to run them at the high res. Besides, all new games come with widescreen support and all future games are pushing towards widescreen. No sense in buying a new LCD for yesterday's games, think of the future. Widescreen is definitely the future.

I love my laptop's 1440x900 screen. I prefer it for all the games that support it, but there still are a number that have issues or can't be made to work. The big Dell monitors are capable of changing their aspect ratio to 4:3, so I'd recommend one of those, if it's in your budget. That would definitely be my monitor of choice, if I had the budget.
