    Default X3100 Driver Downgrade

So, I have the Gateway M-6881. It has the X3100 GM965 integrated video chipset.

I installed the Windows Update video driver, 7.14 from 2/11/2008. Everything runs fine with the ocassional video driver crash. I was getting a 3.5 on both graphics options in the Vista Experience Index.

I noticed there was a driver version 15.--- on the Intel website. It was posted on 8/10/08. Obviously this is a newer driver, but when i installed it and ran the Vista Experience Index i got bumped down to 3.1.

So, any explaination for the weaker scores? Should i keep the newer driver or stick with the one from Windows Update?

Could be anything, vista's index is not a benchmark so you should not really worry about what it says.

But all drivers will act differently, so it is up to you. Put back the old one if you do want a higher score

Well, it's not about the benchmark, I just brought that up because the score changed by a lot.

I know both drivers are from Intel, but i'm not sure which one i should use. Neither gives me problems.

It is a chip not a card though. You can use either, if you are concerned Install the other one that gave you better scores.

In dxdiag, under display, it says
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family

    Is this the x3100?

Yes, that would be your Chipset, but It may not be the actual Video Chip for your system

Do you have everest? If so it is in there

But you do not need to ask, you said it was X3100. And your system is that when I look it up, so if you have onboard GFX then that is it

Mine came with a T7500 proc, so 2.2 ghz and high bus. I thought maybe they bumped that up but lowered the rest.
