Default How do I get 5.1 audio to my receiver?

I have an ATI 2600XT video card and I have it hooked up to my Denon 3808Ci receiver via HDMI. I get picture and sound but I don't get 5.1 or 7.1 audio. Is there something I'm missing? What do I need to do?

on vista go into control panel and select classic view and open device manager, select sound and there should be a device called "digital output device" go in and change the settings, i'm not sure what exactly you'll see because i have the 2600xt but i'm using a separate sound card
