Default My left speaker doesn't work.

I cannot figure out what the deal is with my computer. My left speaker hasn't ever worked on it. I just got a new set of speakers, and the left one (which isn't the main one) still doesn't work. However, when I plug in headphones, the left earpiece works and the right one doesn't. Anyone know what the problem is? This has been so frustrating. I have the newest driver updates and I use windows 7 ultimate.

    Thanks in advance

Go to Control Panel > Sounds > Select your Speakers > check settings in both those sections

I used the configure button to find out that my speaker didnt work, and that it wasn't broken. The left speaker sound test made no sound, while the right one works fine. The jack information for the rear says:

    "L R Rear panel 3.5mm jack"
"C Sub Rear panel 3.5mm jack"
"RL RR Rear panel 3.5mm jack"
"SL RR Rear panel 3.5mm jack"
    "L R Front panel 3.5mm jack"

    The device is enabled.

When I plug the speaker into the front jack, both speakers work, but the quality is atrocious. Do you think I need a set of speakers with a Left and Right speaker input? If that's the case, would switching to USB speakers be my best alternative?

A hint as to what you are plugging into might help. Is this a dedicated soundcard (if so what make/model) or are you plugging directly into a motherboard (if so what make/model)? What speakers are you using? If they are a pair of basic powered speakers with a speaker wire that runs from one speaker to the other and only one jack plugs into the computer then try plugging into the headphone jack and setting the audio options to "headphone".

There's no sound card. I'm plugging into an asus pk5 motherboard. The speakers are HP, about 6 years old, that came with my old desktop. I'll try what you said and reply later. TY
