Default Display driver atikmdag has stopped responding and has recovered

    hey guys,

Why does this error keep occuring so often!! Display driver atikmdag has stopped responding and has recovered.

This has been happening for so long and im fed up with it.

The only way to alleviate the problems is to turn off aero but that defeats the purpose of using windows 7. The errors never occur when in gaming, only when idleing on desktop or surfing the internet.

Heat is NOT an issue because even on 50-100% fan speeds the problem doesnt go away. Many fixes have been attempted with no avail for ALL, installing the display driver alone doesnt help.

Im currently stumped at why this keeps occuring, could it possibly be a bad card??

    Any thoughts guys??

What driver are you using? Maybe try an older one, like 9.12?

    hey,

yeah, ive tried basically every single driver from 9.3,9.6,9.7....upto 10.3 and ALL have the exact same problem =.="

could it possibly be bad hardware? The card isnt overheating and neither is it artifacting or showing any signs of age.

It could be a faulty card, it's odd to hear it happens with all those drivers.

It could also be incorrect BIOS settings as well though, like unstable memory or CPU can cause the driver to fail. Are you sure you are stable otherwise, like tested with Prime95 or Orthos for 12-24 hours, and ran overnight Memtest86+?

Also, have you tested adding more ICH voltage? Sometimes this will help

Ok, ive tried another solution...i disabled the gadgets in windows 7 and i didnt show my desktop icons, and now the crashing hasnt occured since...

Maybe the gadgets were to blame? very wierd.

Hmm, yes maybe so. Maybe you have a gadget that has a memory leak or other issue?

You'll have to test with them enabled one by one until you find the culprit, then let the author know and see if he can fix it.

Ok, maybe that doesnt solve the problem. im getting the same deal, EXCEPt this time it isnt as frequent, with both desktop icons disabled and gadgets, its less of an occurance.

nothing much running, antivirus, ATI catalyst control center, asrock IES.

Should i try disablng those tools on bootup to see if it works?

and, ive underclocked my graphics card to the minimum allowable in CCC whish is 500/490 for core/mem respectively. Bringing it back to stock speeds makes the crash occur more often.

    Yes see if that helps.

It may just be the cards are faulty or getting too hot
