akami is a "buffer" between M$ and the outside world

m$ uses them for additional hosting - perfectly safe

uhhm if you trust m$ that is

M$ switched to the akami servers because of the blaster worm, which is kinda ironic since akami runs linux :D

actually, they have been using akami for many many years now

ever watch when you do an IE update or download the installer? it goes to akami servers to get the data 1st - you never see it go to M$

That's right. Also Apple uses the servers for a lot of it's content and updating tools as well.
