THE high school student charged with modifying a version of the Internet worm that crippled computer networks worldwide says the US federal government has exaggerated its case against him, and is disputing media coverage that portrayed him as a computer-savvy loner.

[b]"I understand that the government needs to catch someone for these crimes. I'm not the one they need to get," he said.
what an idiot... he did it, he even admitied to it already. So even though he commited a crime the gov't should just let him go, right? : omg:

[b]"My son is not brilliant; he's not genius," Rita Parson said.
that becomes more and more clear all the time...

They shouldn't give this kid the maximum penalty, because then what are they going to do if they catch the original writer? Remember, this kid only modified it a little to bash on microsoft's door. It's better than the shutdown one. :)

"Anyone that has any computer knowledge could have done what Jeff did."

Sure and that's why they need to throw the book at the porker so that all the other "not genuises" like Jeff figure out it's not cool to screw up other peoples' computers for a laugh

    [b]Conviction could bring a maximum 10 years in prison and a $US250,000 (2,000) fine.
i agree he should be punished but isn't that a bit too much?
