    Saw this over on another site, and was rather impressed. It shows that 2 does equal 1. :)

    I'm no mathmetician but when you have a look at it it breaks one of the fundamental rules of maths (which algrbra must also adhere to).....you can't divide by zero ....and the 5th step (divide by (a-b)) is illegal because a-b equals zero.

    Therefore the rest of the steps are also illegal or invalid.

    You could argue that a number divided by zero equals infinity...then the step that states that 2a = a is correct as infinity = infinity (2 * infinity is also an invalid statement)..

    Someone with some more recent maths education might be able to confirm this.
