A great deal depends on the particular WU.
A lot of them do seem the same sometimes though don't they? There have been times I thought I was repeating a work unit, only to find it was grinding hardest at different percentages than the one I had suspected.

We'd really like to have you with us -- I thought you were on the team actually, or I would have asked sooner (sorry).

We are proud to boast that we have the #1 cruncher for the entire continent of Australia amongst us. And a lovely crew of machine limited -- yet wholly dedicated, group of individuals to round things out.

If your interested, just click on the 3rd link in my sig. Then click the "join this team" button.
No forms to fill out - no one will come to your house - you will recieve no unsolicited mail - no payment neccesary!

Whether your inclined to join our ranks or not, We're happy that you are running UD:thumb:
I finally bit the bullet and joined the TT team.

Funny thing they had this Anthrax project in my device profiles at UD they sent a note out about it in the monthly newsletter, they should warn people that buy default they sign you up for the Anthrax project as well as the Cancer project. You can easily pull yourself out of either or stay in both by editing your profile.. Some of the new and strange looking molecules we're getting now are for the Anthrax project..

I wouldn't normally say anything about this but I signed up for UD because it was billed as a distibuted computing project to help find a cure for Cancer, no one said anything about Anthrax..:(

    Welcome aboard DigitalDD.
Thanks for joining us! I trust it was a relatively painless process? LOL
Too bad you didn't join us sooner, we would have loved to add your good work to our team total. But by the looks of things, you'll shoot up through the ranks here quite quickly. Of course any work you did previously in UD will still show up under your member name. Nothing lost! (Again, I apologize for not inviting you sooner - I honestly did not realize you were not a current member!)
You are simply adding your accumulated totals while an active member of our team to the team statistics.
Should you ever choose to leave our happy group (heaven forbid), your statistics will still retain the work you did while a member of the team. And of course the team shall also be credited those totals accumulated while you were an active member.
(personally, I like to watch the team totals climb - knowing that my work was a small part of that contribution)

I certainly must thank you also for giving us the "Heads-Up" on the Anthrax project.
I have nothing at all against the Anthrax project, but I too signed up to battle cancer. Not anthrax.
However, after the UD cancer research has drawn to its conclusion, I will certainly consider participating in the anthrax research.

I have reset my device profile to run the cancer research only at this time.
Additionally, I have dumped the currently running molecule, as I am not sure which project it was part of.
I am going to surf the UD forum at this time, and see what more I can learn on this turn of events.

I do appreciate your making us aware of this situation! If you ever get anymore "goodies" DigitalDD -- please continue to post them here!

Note to UD: If you send me a WU for anthrax -- consider it dumped! I consider this under-handed behavior! Let's try to keep it proffessional folks. I am here for all the right reasons, please do not take advantage of that.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
There's a movie quote for you beefy

I personally feel UD has crossed a BIG line here!
Fortunatly, they did leave me the opportunity to opt-out of the anthrax project through the device profile.

The mission statement says the anthrax project is to find a cure for the anthrax bacteria to be shared with "the United States government and other friendly countries".

WTF??? It appears to me I am being pressed into service to do weapons research

If they are going to find a cure, find a damn cure! Don't select who can and cannot be cured! This is simply making anthrax into a more viable weapon by allowing governments to select who can and cannot be killed by it.

I certainly believe in free-choice, and you are all free to make yours. I urge you to give this matter it's due consideration and make your choice.

I have (as you may have noticed) been a strong proponent of United Devices.
At this time I am this close ll to removing them from my programs folder! (ll = this close)

We all deserve a bit more respect than UD is giving us, that much I am sure of.
I am trying to find out exactly what WU's are involved with the anthrax research -- in order to dump the work unit, should one show up.
At this time I am unable to come up with anything definitive, but suspect these enzymes to be part of it.

    1.)protective antigen (PA)
    2.)lethal factor (LF)
    3.)edema factor (EF)

If anyone has any information regarding identifying work units associated with the anthrax project, please let me know.

Again, this is my personal choice - I would not be so bold as to try to entice you to opt-out. This is simply my personal feelings on the matter. (Which you clearly see I feel to be BS of the highest order)
If you choose to do anthrax research - more power to you, I'll have the porch light on when you come home.
If you feel like I do about it -- go to the UD Forum, and let the sunsabidges have it

I fully intend to devote my research/resources exclusively to the cancer research project. /RANT

As an official response to one of my postings regarding anthrax research, in the UD Forum, UD has gone so far as to close the thread!!

    See it here - http://forum.ud.com/ubbcgi/ultimateb...c&f=5&t=001937

In another thread, an offical at UD told me I was "confused", that pissed me off. I told him I am beginning to regard the UD Agent as being no more trustworthy than a typical computer virus.

They blatantly disrespect all those who have volunteered their resources. I freely placed my computer at their disposal to be used to pursue a cure for cancer. They have misallocated those resources for an unrelated project.
Is anyone else here confused on that??

Kheldar, how does that kind hospital you work for feel about their 400+ machines being mis-used by United Devices?
I can just imagine they are happy as clams aren't they?

This is complete and total bull. Smells highly of government conspiracy as well -- someone should call agent Mulder!

I'm stirring the pot a bit too Wiggo, I must admit.
I'm getting strange responses to some posts, outright thread closure to other posts, and lately, first ever posters are the only ones that will respond.
    Strange behaviours indeed!

I am seriously thinking about going to slashdot and making sure they are aware of what is taking place under the guise of cancer research. (although, knowing that group, they are probably quite aware)

This is blatant disrespect to it's volunteers on the part of UD.
I refuse to participate in research that is only for the benefit of a select group of individuals based on the country they are fortunate/unfortunate enough to reside in. To the best of my knowledge diseases don't carry maps - so there is no point in giving cartography to a cure.
Worse yet, this is a political map, not geographic.

Good luck to you in your quest Wiggo!

I certainly hope that if you should be succesful, the aliens won't prove to be a bunch of back-stabbing petty bast*rds like some of those here on Earth.

With that, I'm off to UD for more

I don't think that they'd be as willing to participate in anthrax research as cancer research - since that is a big part what hospitals try and do - cure people
