I don't have time or money right now to go out and buy heatsinks and fans and such, and was wondering if there was perhaps a good software program that maybe runs in the background of XP and keeps things cool. Like I remember some programs ran a HALT command on some hardware and such to cool things down. Is there anything that you guys recommend downloading at all?

These so called coolin' proggies are totally useless as they only work at idle and make no difference at all as the CPU loads other programs and it's while the CPU is under load that ya need good cooling so if ya don't have the time or money to get a better HSF then just turn the PC off.

Agreed. Any of the so-called cooling utilities are worthless. If you have the time to use the machine, then you should have time to take care of it. Otherwise just leave it off and set it somewhere so it looks really cool... doing nothing.

For under $10US you could LAP your stock hsf to make sure it is nice and FLAT to ensure the best contact with your cpu. Then purchase a bigger fan, and some better thermal paste and try that out. You might be able to lower temps by 10C.
I have done it to one of my older systems just to see if I could and it worked. Stock HSF aren't ALL bad, and can be made to work better just by taking a little time, instead of just slapping it on there with the thermal pad or whatever.

    Just my 2 cents.
