i hope you mean heatspeader... I don't think taking sandpaper to the core would be such a good idea ;)

i wouldn't recomend it, but if you are extremely careful I don't see why not...

    Yup it's an XP1800+.
I'm @ work, and we have a granite table for measuring, which is garrantied to be flat +/-0.0001" !!! I have 1500 grit and 2000 grit Wet Or Dry. Should be good...

I was assuming you were talking about a P4 (which has a metal heatspeader over the core)... i would definitely not recommend lapping that CPU!

You know what, the CPU has 4 little "foam" pads (1 in each corner) which would make lapping the CPU "A royal pain in the @$$ !!!"
BTW: I didn't lap the CPU.

The Volcano 7+ on the other hand was VERY "grooved" from the milling cutter Thermaltake used to produce the heatsink. :thumbs do
It took MANY passes with 1000 / 1500 / 2000 grit WETorDRY sand paper.
I think my arm is dead and hand is permanantly stuck in the form of the heatsink ! :tears:

But now I'm happy to report that the bottom of the heatsink is a mirror ! :thumb:
