JSR, your friend has a wonderfull theory ...unfortunatly he is not correct. If you switch the fan on the PSU then you are blowing the hot air from the PSU right across all of your components! Most PSUs are at the top back for a reason: heat rises and must be removed in as efficient a method as possible. Why not simply exhaust it as it is designed to do?

did you know technically to follow ATX standards a PSU should suck air from outside and blow into the case, this was so that when you had your 86, 286, 386, 486 with just a heatsink and no fan in your desktop case the air from the PSU would blow onto the heatsink thus cooling it, of course in these system the slight rise in temperature was so minute that it posedd no problem whatsoever, but now with our athlons and p4's that are giving off umm lots of watts of heat we dont do that because we dont want to raise the air temperature in our case any higher than necessary although in watercooled systems i suppose this wouldnt be such a problem.
