Default Lost FPS Due to Heat?

Hey everyone, I recently bought AOpen's GeForce FX5900XT, the purple OEM oriented version, and to my surprise the fan on it started failing already. So in looking for a new cooling solution, I settled upon Vantec's Iceberq4, the non-Pro version, which actually isn't made for the FX5900XT chip size. Anyways with some brackets left over from a Zalman heatpipe cooler, I got it on. But now I've noticed a FPS drop in the two games I play, Doom3 and America's Army - more so in Doom3. Nothing else but that video card has changed.

I've heard nothing but good about the Vantec cooler, but is it due to that / heat? I've even got Vantec's PCI slot dual fan cooler underneath it. Any suggestions? I find it weird that this new cooler doesn't work as well as the stock. Thanks in advance.

    Specs:

Intel Pentium 4C 3.0 GHz with 533 MHz FSB and HT
    512 MB PC3200 DDR400 RAM
Western Digital Caviar 80 GB 7200 RPM
AOpen FX5900XT refitted with Vantec Iceberq4
    Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
    Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2

Um, what card did you have before?
    EDIT: I don't think they make 3.0c with 533fsb..

Well, this processor was transferred from a Dell Dimension 8300 series, and I'm pretty sure it's a 533 Mhz FSB. If they dont make those, then my mistake, its a 800 MHz FSB. My previous card was some 128 MB GeForce FX5200 non-Ultra, but would that have anything to do with the FX5900XT? I think basically the problem of lower FPS came after the Vantec cooler was installed.

    Correct. If I recall, they don't make a 3GHz 533FSB.. It goes from 2.8 to 306.

I doubt a cooler can cause a fps drop. Will check the temp of the card.

It would take a significant amount of extra heat to cause a FPS drop. Nvidia chips automatically drop the performance when they start taking errors.
