I don't know why you guys are talking about the extended PCI bus (PCI-X) as its only found in servers, what you are talking about is PCI-Express (PCIe or PCI-E).

My bad. Wrong notation. I meant PCI Express.

I am having a similar problem. I have:
    aopen ak-79d 400 max mobo
    512 ddr ram
    sapphire 9800 radeon pro 128mb
    amd 1800+

First I installed the newest nforce drivers for my motherboard from nvidia. But when I installed them it seemed not all was well. Within the systems control panel. Under hardware/ device managers.. there were many items with the yellow " ! ". The pci standard ram controllers and the network interface and sound parts were not installed or working. Then I individually clicked update for each item.. and I was able to fix each one. And everything seems good.
I flashed my Mobo with the most current bios.
and then I installed the newest ati drivers. Everything seems fine now, except for the agp part.

oh I also have windows xp sp2, newest directx c.
I do have numerous crashed when trying to play some games.

Can anyone help. should I clear both the chipset drivers and ati driversm and try again. In the proper order. Or is it the chipset drivers I am using to new?

I set up the same mainboard (but with an FX5200) recently and it worked fine with the latest drivers...You sure you installed in the correct order and rebooted? Make sure you disabled the onboard VGA in the BIOS, as it may be interfering with your ATI card (definitely turns off automatically if you put an nvidia card in the agp slot). Let me know if this helps

I tried reinstalling all the drivers again in order.. and I even tried older drivers.. nothing works.
and I still randomly crash when I try to play games.

how do you turn agp off in the bios I do not see that setting in the bios.

I put that graphics card in my older computer.. and it works great now.
But I still want it to work in this one.

    what do you think.

I'm having a very similiar problem.

SmartGart kept telling me AGP was off. When I upgraded my powersupply to a whopping 540 watts, now AGP is in 2x mode. I have an ASUS board with an AGP 8x slot, and an ATI Radeon 9000.

I have the latest chipset drivers, video card drivers, and mobo bios.
