My CDRW is on slave and just recently I've been getting problems when using nero.
These came up in the event log:
    8:11:49 PM HP CD-Writer+9100
    Invalid write state
    8:11:49 PM HP CD-Writer+9100
    Could not perform EndTrack
    8:11:49 PM HP CD-Writer+9100
    SCSI Target error
    8:11:49 PM HP CD-Writer+9100
    Could not perform Fixation
    Burn process failed at 4x (600 KB/s)

Would this be software related or hardware? And would the slave position be the problem, but I also have had the CDRW in slave in the past and have had no problems up till now.
I haven't tried any other programs yet, but I will later tonight.

I will not install any burner in the slave just to avoid those sort errors. It must be the Master.

Does it matter where the device is on the IDE cable? for example master closet to mobo. I always wanted to find out this question, or is it irrelevant where it is?:wow:

Masters should be at the end of the cable and slaves in the middle.

Uninstall Nero and then reinstall as ya positionin' and settin' is likely to be the root of the prob.

hey that is like my error exactly.

i was having the same error with my CD-RW drive set as master.
even when the burn process completed without any error (very rarely), the CD came out blank...i.e. without anything written on it.
i re-installed my secondary IDE...updated nero from 5.5.10.20 to 5.5.10.35 and tried endless number of CD's thinking it was the media but it never worked out.
i took it for RMA and they found the drive to be faulty...now i will know tomorrow that what was the fault.

may be it was a software problem but getting blank CD's out without any errors and then having those fixation errors really scared the **** out of me and i had to take it for RMA.

may it is the drive...or may be it is not...
