Thread: Attempt at dedicated server, need info...

Id slap some form of Linux on that puppy and it will be good to go. Having 1GB of RAM would help, but unless you're gonna have extreme bandwith, you probably wont be able to support the amount of players on your bandiwth that having more than 512mb of RAM would require.

Its defintely worth salvaging. And dont forget to install Folding @ Home on it and join our team. If you're gonna have the CPU on 24/7 you might as well put it to some good use. :)

Cool, thanks. Now how much comands and stuff do I have to learn to install and run dedicated game servers in Linux. About how much time am I going to have to invest on learning how to operate linux, or is it really easy??

to install Linux you dont need to know any commands if you use the gui. If you are only running it as a game sever you will need to know a few basic commands to intall it and a few more to run it. For what you want to do I can't imagin it would be too dificult
I've gone too far and need to move on!

most commands you will need to know will be for the game administration (choose map, etc). getting the server to run will be easy.
