    Default Games wanted

I want to buy three to four new games for Christmas. They must be first person shooters. I want ones with an easy to use God mode, without a lot of complicated code. I like single play. I assume UT2004 fits this bill...

    Are there any others?

God mode? Sounds like you don't really enjoy playing the game, just winning.

Check out Gamespy or Adrenaline Vault for reviews of recent titles.

Half-Life 2 will have great single-player a probably feature a fairly simple "God" mode, but like almost any other game, you will still have to use a console (but it's not complicated). Domm3 3 also has an easy-to-use "God" mode, but IMO the gameplay isn't all that great.

I'd say UT2004 doesn't fit that description. The game is meant mostly for multiplayer, and the single-player is just multiplayer with bots (meaning it's best played with other people).

No, I enjoy playing, not however being endlessly stuck on a level. And yes, it is a joy to blast away the baddies to free the galaxy without dying.

I was hoping to draw on the expertise of those who play games a lot rather than looking for articles that never address my exact questions.

You'll still have to check out reviews to see how the gameplay is, even if they don't answer your exact questions. Thats the only way you'll know if the content is even something you might enjoy. I thoroughly enjoy playing Doom3 because I've been a fan of the game since its inception and the graphics are simply awesome, but many folks don't care for it because they feel it lacks gameplay. Same for UT2k4, I enjoy it but many feel its just the same old UT with a new label and another big price tag.

It all boils down to personal preference, which is why I recommended a couple of good gaming review sites. That will at least let you narrow down your choices and we may be able to answer any specific questions about your choices if we've played them before.

What you say makes sense. My very favorite game is Unreal2, although I loved Unreal and Quake 2. I like single players the best, although I realize most everybody else is into the multi-player experience. I try to find time to play games for relaxation, but I have very little time to keep up with games.

Does anyone know of Far Cry or Painkiller? Do they have easy to use God modes? What are they shooting at, humans or aliens?

Well, in Far Cry u play Jack Carver, a boat skipper who thought he'd seen all the South Pacific had to offer. But nothing could have prepared you for what you are about to uncover on these islands.Heavily armed mercenaries are just the beginning of this gate way gone to hell.Yeah and after a few stages u do fight well, mutant, not aliens excatly. And Painkiller, is somewhat like UT 2004.its an action packed run and gun type game.

    Thumbs up Re: Games wanted

I second Far Cry, I love the game. IMO much more fun than Doom3. I've beat it on all levels/difficulties and just keep replaying my favorite levels. So much fun.

And if you're open to multiplayer, Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory is an 'amazing' game. A FREE game from Ubisoft, but 'only' multiplayer, no bots. you can get everything you need for the game from the server I always play on. www.bpark3.com

Hope to see you there. I'm TripleBlackIce if anyone ever joins.

    Far Cry Cheats

Both of these are from Gamefaqs.com which is a site I regularly browse for gaming info of all kinds. The Far Cry cheat for God Mode is a bit more involved then just typing in a command line code but seems pretty easy to do.

You can also look through the site for reviews/links to reviews if you want a better idea about the two games. I personally haven't played either of them but have heard many compliments about Far Cry and a number about Painkiller. Both of them are reputed to be excellent FPS games.
