Well this sucks. I am trying to help my friend.

He can't play Unreal2K3 in 32bit or any other screen resolution anymore for some reason.

It was working fine and then he tried to play the other day and it told him to delete his UT2003.ini file.

He changed nothing in it except for the refresh rate which is set to 100. Yes his monitor supports that at 1024 x 768.

Anyways he deleted the file and ran the game again. And its fine untill you try and change it to 32bit. Then it exists the game and tell him to delete the UT2003.ini file once again. Does every time he tries it. Also, does the same if u just do it in the UT2003.ini file itself.

Again it was working pefectly fine. 50fps or so. But now he is stuck with 16bit and 800x600.

He is using WinXP Pro. SP1. Fully updated using windowsupdate.com and over at activewin.com.

He was using directx 8.1 when this happened. So he reinstalled that and his drivers and everything. Still no go. So he tried upgrading to directx 9.0. That did not help with this issue. Even though he did get 8 more fps on the average in 16bit mode and 800x600.

So now he is stuck and I dont know what else he can do.

All other games run fine in 32bit and 1024x 768 such as Quake3.

He is not overclocked at all. Never has been. He does not own the comp. his parents do so he cant. So I know thats not the problem.

Well hopefully someone here can help him (us) out.

    Thanks,
    Will

I don't know how to fix it...I would just recomend reinstalling it. That will probably take less time than troubleshooting it anyway.

If it contiunes to happen after a reinstall, then I would get concerned and try to find the culprit
I've gone too far and need to move on!

    Hey,

Yea he went ahead and reinstall and same problem.

Deleted from add or remove programs and then deleted the folder itself and reinstalled. And some problem once again.

Follow my UT2003 Tweak Guide, and in particular follow the instructions on how to do a clean uninstall/reinstall of UT2003 (involves using Regcleaner). I would suggest that all that has happened is a registry entry for UT2003 has either become corrupt or has locked in 800x600x16 because it couldn't detect your graphics card properly the first time (or somesuch).

Anyway refer to the guide :)

hey i ran into ::sorta:: the same problem.. it ran fine then a few days later, wouldnt run and kept bugging me to delete the .ini file..

what i found out was.. i must have somehow changed my video card > settings > d3d because when I changed my Video Card settings to default, it ran fine again.

so try changing ur video card settings to defaults first then run it again.. (u know, right click on desktop > properties > settings[tab] > advanced > etc..)

We had somewhat of this issue. Our problem was when you went to run the game editor, the system display would switch to 8-bit. Then we would get a message that it can't run in 8-bit, and fail.

We found the problem to be a line in the Registry. I don't remember the line exactly, but something like:

DISABLE 32-BIT DEFAULT 256COLOR...BLAH BLAH BLAH

I found it doing a search for ut2003. I sent an email to one of the guys that did the engine, he said that line wasn't put there by the game, and to delete it. It works perect now.

    Guess what we reintalled windows.

Changed no grahpics or anything and installed Unreal2k3 with the latest patch and same error

Again this game worked fine on 32bit before i can still cant figure it out.

Really.... ummm, is someone else using the machine? Updated any video drivers recently? installed any new 3D games, possibly changing a driver? .....
