it does not affect your FSB because it is not being used, only looks like it to you in the BIOS. Your CPU can only use the .5 multi downwards from 8, such as 7.5/6.5 Use it then and you will see it does and X.5 to the FSB because then you are allowed to use it

I've just checked with CPUID and you are correct! ;)

After setting that new option to +0.5x, effectively taking the multiplier to 8.5x, the bios indicated the new Cpu frequency as 2.83Ghz (In setup, NOT on post - up from the default of 2.66Ghz).

However after saving the bios settings and then checking in windows, the CPU frequency has not changed and is still at it's default of 2.66Ghz. Although as before it will still stepdown to the 6x multiplier when windows is idle (ie Speedstep down to 2.0Ghz)

Does the feature of +0.5 multiplier work on a specific CPU? Or did GB leave the option there by mistake after disabling it?

It works on all new 45nm chips. It will work on yours, but only lower then your max multi, such as using 7.5 or 6.5. Ya just cant go above your max of 8 is all

Set 7.5 and you will see it in action

Since I was early on in this thread trying to get 4x1G sticks of Crucial to work at 1066, I figured I'd post a bit of follow-up.

I switched to 2x2G of Mushkin (996599), which so far has run 1 hour of Orthos at 1066. For posterity, here's my current settings (P35C-DS3R v1.1 with f10 bios):

    Robust Graphics Booster__________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio _________________ [9X]
    CPU Host Clock Control___________ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)_________ [333]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2_________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)_____ [3.2] --> 1066
DRAM Timing Selectable_____ SPD __ [Manual]
    Performance Enhance _____________ [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time________________ 5
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay________ 5
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)___________ 15
ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)___________ 4
Rank Write to READ Delay___________ 11
    Write to Precharge Delay___________ 8
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 60
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 4
    Static tRead Value_______________ 8
    Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto]

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.100V] --> 1.98v
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2V]
    CPU Voltage Control_______ [Normal]

    = = =

I'm using a Zalman ZM-NBF47 on the northbridge -- the stock cooler didn't fit snug enough for my liking.

If you start getting errors I would say up this to 7 as a place to start looking for the cause of the error >>>
    Static tRead Value_______________ 6

If it still errors after that change, then this could also be the issue >>>
Rank Write to READ Delay___________ 4
I would say to try 9-11 maybe 15-18 for 1066

But either way, just trying to give you some pointers IF you do run into issues. Glad to see you got some better sticks and they are working properly for you now

I'll probably take those to 8 and 11 respectively, and reduce Refresh to ACT Delay a bit. Almost 5 hours of Orthos with no errors now :D

I'm also taking notes in case I ever decide to up to 8G

Sounds good! You can always save your BIOS once you get stable, then start lowering one at a time and see what you can get down. Bios profiles rock!!

I see what you mean now.

The two multipilers shown in the Bios are 6x and 8x for my E8200. So a 6.5 multiplier would work, but not an 8.5x multiplier as it exceeds the "ceiling".

However, GB could do with tidying that bios page up (although fair enough it is Beta) and NOT showing the resultant cpu frequency of 2.83Ghz when the multiplier is set to 8.5x - which of course it allows you to do, even if it doesn't apply that cpu speed in reality.

Yeah, MHDD showed an HPA. Actually on all my drives. I have to recheck the RHPA vs HPA on the primary and see if it is the 2113 sectors.

MHDD is handy, I recommend using the magic boot disc to use it. I just don't know why "slave devices are not supported!"
