    Default 800 v. 1066 ?

I finally took the leap and started buying the components for my first build. Gigabyte P35 DQ6, Raptor 150, WD 750, XION Mid tower. Newegg shipped them and they're sitting beside me. Antec truepower Quattro 850 came yesterday. Zalman 9700 is on its way from California. I'm joining the 6850 group. GTX or GTS (is the big brother worth $200 more). My final decision is the hardest and that is MEMORY. I like the Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1066 over the Corsair Patriot Extreme 800. But you folks seem to favor the DDR 800 family. I'm starting with 2 gigs. Is it because the 800 has history? Many have written that the 1066 isn't worth the money. Gaming is important. The board is rated for the 1066. Is the DQ6 picky about which brand of memory it gets stuck with? Thanks for your help.

The DQ6 works with most branded memory - if the price is not much more, you should go with 1066 RAM as you'll be able to run your memory faster.

Timings are also very important - if you running 1066 at very high latency compared to 800 at very low latency, performance will be about the same in most cases.

Janus will be able to tell you about which RAM is supported!

Thank you Cameron. How do I ask Janus which memory I should buy?

Sorry, just back from my vacation.

Although you can setup the system memory multiplier to let your CPU Run at FSB 1066 and RAM run at 800. but I think CPU and memory run at the same frequency will be better.

The DQ6 works with most branded memory, and some DDR2 800 memory can run oc at 1066, if you have a FSB 1066 CPU, both 800 and 1066 memory is ok, but make sure your 800 memory can run at 1066.

But if you have a FSB 1333 CPU, I think 1066 memory will be better.

    Thank You.

get 1066, the Corsair 8500 C5D runs very well on the 680SLI DQ6.
