Default A quick question about bioses and mobos of different revisions

Hi, I would just like to know if there's any adverse effects at all if I were to flash a bios from a different rev (e.g rev 1.0 mobo from rev 2.1 bios) from the same model (e.g. P35-DS4).

I would advise against that for sure

Why would you want to do that anyway? If you have a 1.0 rev board and are trying to flash to newer to support a different CPU it may not have a BIOS update because that board will not support it. Please post as to why you want to do this, and maybe Janus can answer you better about doing the flash, and if indeed your older board is not going to have a new BIOS to support what you are wanting it to work with

    of COURSE!

each bios version for different revisions of the same board are NOT capable with each other. Unless u want a RMA then dont do it.

ITs like sticking a DDR1 module into a DDR2 RAM slot, IT doesnt work!

    It does, but RARELY!!!

I just seen Janus from Gigabyte suggest this to someone here, so some models it may be ok, but I would NOT without direct manufacturer suggestion. And even then I would only do if I had the RMA time as said above, it dont normally work AT ALL

The reason I asked is because I have reason to believe no matter which revision the bios is for, it applies to the mobos of the same model. I just did a MD5+SHA-1 comparison of bioses from 1.0+2.01 for F12, both have the same value.

Well then, only Janus could say for sure. But I kind of doubt it since each model has different bios options voltage and setting wise

Janus, is it the same for the P35-DS3 rev 2.0 as this version no longer shows on the gigabyte site. Rev 1.1 and 2.1 are the only ones there, I have bios f13a and want to update to the f13i, will this work knowing it only exists for rev 1.1 and 2.1? Also if I were to change my motherboard to the P35-DS3 rev 2.1 would I have to reformat my C drive considering the boards are so closely related?
