    Default BIOS update on GA-MA790FX-DQ6

I’m about to build a new system based on a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6, AMD 790FX, DDR2 ,Socket-AM2+, Rev 1 motherboard and a AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition Quad-Core 2.5 GHz CPU.

Gigabytes homepage for this motherboard says you have to update BIOS to version F5C for supporting CPU ID (Support AM2+ Phenom 9850 CPU). Does this mean that Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 needs this BIOS update before I can use the AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition Quad-Core 2.5 GHz CPU? Do I need an older CPU installed to do this update or will it allow me to do the BIOS update with AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition Quad-Core 2.5 GHz CPU installed on the motherboard?

Some guidelines on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Janus will have to answer youi for sure, but most of the time if it is unsupported it will not boot. And F5c sounds like a Beta and would likely not be the BIOS installed in a Board you buy.

Some will work and just not properly, some wont work at all if unsupported. So Hopefully Janus can better answer you
