As an update, very late though, i managed to run 2 pairs of 996599 Mushkin's on this board.
Now i have 8GB (4 DIMMs x 2GB) 1072MHz 5-5-5-15-2T at stock ram voltages as you can see here .

Also, pic of the configuration (stable...) :

Excellent. The official restriction of DDR800 means that AMD won't guarantee (and thus won't provide tech support) if you fill all the DIMM slots and can't get over DDR800.

From your results the limit is ineed just a ploy by AMD to reduce tech questions etc. You have done really well. Have you considered pushing the CPU a little bit more? 3.8GHz with 1.5V should be just about possible. OFC alter the RAM so it's within or slightly above/belowspec. You should again see another big boost in performance, even if you have to settle on a lower RAM frequency.

Just finished maintenance of my w/cooling setup and i've replaced the Mushkin 8 GB with a 8800/8GB kit from G.Skill (not having problem, just needed 2 strong 4GB kits for other pc's i have).

    Right now running CPU @ 3.2 (15.5x207) with stock Vcore, NB=HT=2070MHz and all 8GB of G.Skill PI-Black @ 1100 5-5-5-15-31-2T with Vdimm set 1.825V (Everest reading = 1.94V).

I'll do some fine-tuning regarding CPU/HT/NB frequencies and also try to increase RAM frequency and fine-tune subtimings. I'll post some screenshots maybe.

Cooling is adequate for streching a little bit its performance, so i'll give it a try (it's my home-office 24/7 workstation, though)...

Hi felix_w I have a question for future reference. Are you still on the F9 bios with that GA-MA790X-DS4, and the AMD Phenom2 x4 940 processor? Have you tried any of the bios updates since the F9?

Running the 940BE still on this board. Upgraded to Beta bios F10a. It has newer RAID ROM v 3.2.1540.6 .

Feels faster, especially on Disc Scan at boot. Older versions needed 7-10 dots (each dot i believe is 1 sec) while with the F10a needs only 1-2 with same disc configuration (mixed RAID 0 & 1 on a pair of WD6400AAKS). I think it may have an overall faster feeling during boot, but that may just be my idea.

Ram i am running atm is G.Skill Pi Black 8800-8GB kit, but i think that i am gonna keep it on that system. May pass it on my ASUS M4A79.

LinX stopping on Error @ about 3:30 with whole kit tested so as each single stick of the kit tested individually. Settings for CPU were stock, Ram settings i tried were 5-5-5-15-2T tRC=26 to 33 and other subtimings up to 8-5-4-5 (tWR-tRRD-tWTR-tRTP i guess ) with voltages up to 1.95V in BIOS ( Real 2.04 measured with DMM, as board is overvolting).
Ram during stress-testing was 4GB, unless when testing each stick individually.

I also ram 4 threaded Prime with same settings and following error "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4".

Then i ran memtest 4.00 for each stick on same settings as above. Timings were recognized as 8-5-5-15 and each stick on the above settings had errors. ( i'll update with screenshots when back home ).

My partner has borrowed my mushkin ram kit and the second mushkin kit was used for my GF's PC running stable on a DFI 790GX-M2RS on advertised timings and clocks.

So , i guess G.SKill kit needs special treatment and timing configuration, probably advertised performance is not for AMD platforms.

Artdrivers, if u have any advice for my situation, need any info or want to do any testing on my system, i am at your services

It's alot of memory try raising the Trfc in bios It should be at 127.5ns try 195ns if at 195ns try 327.5ns. Run the memtest with the memclock at x4.00Mhz first to establish the memory is good at that speed. If it fails at DDR800 lets not go to DDR1066.
OK here is a template change the ones in red. Then run Memtest86+4.0, and Prime95
Let us know if it passes. Then try it again at
x Memory Clock x5.33 with the same timings. Then try 5-7-7-24-31-2T
The template may be different with that BIOS
    Code:
    DRAM Configuration
    CPU Host Clock Control [Auto]
    x CPU Frequency (MHz) 200
    Set Memory Clock [Auto]
    x Memory Clock x4.00
    DCTs Mode (Note) [Unganged]

Ok, TRFC was set at 195ns from the beginning, i think it was the first detail that Sean from Mushkin told me to alter.

It seems that G.Skill need the same voltage with my Mushkin, no matter if they are spec'd for 1.8-1.9V. Now i've managed to run without errors. The key-factor was TRC and a bit of voltage.

TRC is 42 atm, and i've set VDimm to 2.00V (taking into account the overvolting of my board, this should be almost 2.08~2.09).

I am at 553MHz 5-5-5-15-42-2T now and already run the 6th loop of LinX without error.

    Will update in a sec.

Thank you for that info. It seems it helps to raise timings and voltage when using 8gigs. Although I dont know exactly why. Except the looser the timings the more stable. But if you get the voltage to high it heats and crashes. I see you found a nice zone for it. What is the cpu nb vid set to? I believe it should be raised +.075 to +0.10.

CPU-NB VID is the default for the specific CPU : 1.175V. I cannot raise it, cause no relevant option in BIOS menu for increasing, only for decreasing....I discussed about that matter on the General Gigabyte Support thread.

The only way i can make my o/c more stable is via K10Stat or CPUTweaker. There i can change the CPU-NB VID a bit, for stability.

For the past hours i've been setting up a new AM3 workstation, testing a P4C800-E m/b i got for an old P4 system and also testing 4GB of 996599 Mushkin on my 790X-DS4 & 940BE combo.

I'll have info for trouble and settings used in a while.

Ram Timings have the above settings in Bios :

    Code:
    DRAM Configuration
    CPU Host Clock Control [Manual]
    x CPU Frequency (MHz) 200
    Set Memory Clock [Manual]
    x Memory Clock x5.33
    DCTs Mode (Note) [Unganged]
DDRII Timing Items [Manual] SPD Auto
    x CAS# latency 5T
    x RAS to CAS R/W Delay 5T
    x Row Precharge Time 5T
x Minimum RAS Active Time 15T
    x 1T/2T Command Timing 2T
    x TwTr Command 5T
    x Trfc0 for DIMM1 195ns
    x Trfc2 for DIMM2 195ns
    x Trfc1 for DIMM3 195ns
    x Trfc3 for DIMM4 195ns
    x Write Recovery Time 8T
    x Precharge Time 3T
    x Row Cycle Time 25T
x RAS to RAS Delay 5T
    DRAM Voltage set to 2.0V
CPU Voltage set to +150mV (Default 1.35V)
NB Voltage (not CPU-NB) set to 1.3V

    Got the following result :

I think that if i take this phenom to my M4A79 Deluxe, it will run much better. It may be an old batch (0851EPMW), but all it needs is precise voltage & timings.

I've run SuperPi 32M, Cinebench 11.5 and Prime so far. I think it is stable.
