Default ga-x48-dq6 and the intel stock fan placement?!

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the stock fan from an intel core 2 quad to fit on this mobo without breaking my thumbs. Anyone know based on the way the label faces on the topside of the fan which direction it should point? Thanks kindly =D

I believe it should be parallel to the top of the board but I could be wrong, but I do know you are right about the pressure needed, I see tons of users complain about how much it takes to push in those pins!

Just keep pushing but dont break your board. Best way to do it would be hold the board from behind the cpu while pushing from the front if you can

I found you this, hope it helps!!!
    YouTube - Intel Cpu Install

It is the Intel Guide for installing their fans, it says ANY orientation.

Also check here to see and be sure you do not have the pins "Locked"

Thanks for such a speedy reply....ouch my thumbs are gonna fall off.

This is insane. I can't believe something should be this hard.

I've gotten three to pop in but the 4th pin closest to the PS/2 keyboard circuit will not budge. The mobo appears to warp under the pressure. This seriously can't be good.

I'm half tempted to try and fire her up with just the 3.

Oh, I have the Intel label at top closest to the power supply.

Ya, 3 would not be a god idea. If someone else is home let them give their good fingers a try!!!

You could put a towel/washcloth between your thumb and the button it may help ya some.

I've never used one myself, but I do OFTEN see threads/comments about just how hard it is to get one installed

They are difficult to install and do bend the motherboard. I am using one myself until I can find a good cooler and after the Intel cooler I intend avoiding getting one using the damn push pins. lol I want one using a back plate, far more secure fitting. I have never liked clip on heatsinks from my Athlon XP days, I always avoided them and got a bolt on heatsink as its far more secure. The push pins might be better than the horrible clip on Athlon heatsinks where you can risk destroying the CPU and motherboard if you slip with a screwdriver trying to install it but they're still pretty poor fitting and poor cooling as well.

Good to hear you got it fitted.

I had the excat same problem and I have built at least 15 rigs. I was amazed how diffcult it was to get all four pins to lock securely. Calling Gigabyte is no help at all, if you call Intel they will send you slightly longer replacement pins for free.

I did finally manage to get the stock pins to lock wthout breaking the board, the worst by far holding solution I have ever seen on a clooling fan.

My thumbs are sore as all hell today. I can't believe it took me well over two hours to get them to snap in place. What were they thinking in regards to design? I have built 15+ systems and this was by far the worst in regards to the aforementioned dilemma.

I def wanted to thanks all those that lent a hand in helping me out.

    Great forum
