Default CPU-Z shows incorrect proc speed w/ ga-ex38-ds4

    Hi,

I just built my first system (everything generally works), but I've run into an issue with CPU-Z. It shows the E8400 CPU at 2 Ghz and mult of 6, but the bios shows the CPU with a mult of 9 (3 Ghz). I'm pretty sure that CPU-Z is wrong, because Everest shows the CPU at 3 Ghz and so does Linux when it boots. Does anybody know why CPU-Z is showing the processor speed and mult incorrectly? Is some kind of a bios tweak required to get CPU-Z to show the correct mult and proc speed, or is there some other solution?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    System: Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4, Intel E8400, 4x1GB Crucial DDR2-1066, Sapphire HD3470, Thermaltake W0144RU 600W. XION XON-101 case, Seagate 250 GB HD SATA2 7200 rpm ST3250410AS, Pioneer IDE DVD burner DVR-115DBK, floppy drive.

You have Intel's Speedstep on. If you want your CPU to ALWAYS run at 3Ghz you need to Find and disable C1E and EIST in the BIOS

    Anytime

Be sure to read thru the pinned guide in this section if you want to try some overclocking, E8400's will do 3.6-4.0GHz on Air
