Well first before you do get some new ram, I would suggest with that one stick you go in and set some voltages. MCH add .2 and DDR set to .3, refresh to act delay to 70, then you should be able to use all 4. You should not have any issues with 2x1, especially if you set the proper voltage. Unless one of them is dead/dying.

I would also recommend you (with the one for sure stable stick) flash to the lastest BIOS so you have best support for that CPU (Could also be part of the issue) >>>

Do you live in the US? What is your price range And I will suggest you some Mushkins if you like.

Got it to boot with the "other two" sticks I wasn't testing with using settings. I then tried all four, but hung after post :

Oh my! Oh my!!! It works!!!! I'm flabbergasted. So many posts on the net about this ram and my mobo not co-operating with each other. I am deeply indebted to your expertise. I would not have succeeded otherwise.

I didn't see your post above before I made my one after. Added in the changes you suggested, let it boot with 2 sticks, then shut down and added the last two. It works.
Surely it should not be so setting sensitive? Have Corsair got their SPD settings so wrong? I blather with joy.

12:45am Not stable. Battlefield 1942 crashes to desktop and bluescreens with the 4 gig but did not with 2 or 1. Joy is slightly diminished.

Nice to hear you are getting somewhere. Ya, it can be a bit tricky with 4GB or more.

Here, for now lets see if this helps you in stability >>>

Gmch clock skew control _____ 100-200

Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 70 << Try 72-75 for now, I dont think this is the issue, but may help you get things stable until you can get the rest tweaked down and some voltages fixed up

    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 6
Static tRead Value_______________ 8 << May need 9 for now as well
    Static tRead Phase Adjust________ AUTO
    Command rate (CMD) _______ 2

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.3] = 2.1V
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal] << Change to +0.1
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2V] << Change to +.25 or .3

IS that CPU voltage in Auto and you just posted the default or do you have it set to that? If you set it, it may need a bit more, or to be set in Auto

Do you have legacy USB Storage detect Enabled in the Integrated Peripherals Page of the BIOS

You will be able to lower settings once you figure out what is holding you back.

You did test each stick one by one with [url=http://www.memtest.org/#downiso]Memtest86+[url] When you got them right? If not, you should to be sure you did not get a DOA or dying stick in there. Test them one by one in slot one at stock speed, manually set main timings and voltage

Cpu normal vcore 1.2500V (Sorry, had an extra 2 in there, i.e. 1.225)

Will have to get a USB flash drive to do bios.

Resetting these today, timings seemed to have reverted to AUTO after blue screen (?), so restarted twice to make sure had stayed manual after resetting.

Have not tested each stick yet. Will have to put my patience hat on today and do that. Stuck at home with inflamed lower disk temporarily so do have some time on hand to do that. I thoroughly appreciate your help with this.

If it continues to be flaky may well get some "MUSHKIN Twin Pack 2x1 gig (2gig Total) DDR2 1066Mhz (PC2-8500) Value Enhanced" from Gamedude's Springwood store, otherwise would have to be an internet order. They also have Kingston, Adata, Geill, G-Skill, Kingmax, and Team Elite brands. Will test out today and repost.

    legacy usb is enabled

stock speed = 3.20B System Memory Multiplier returned to AUTO?

Memtest 86+: Three sticks tested fine but one stick, the test did not "fail", but testing just stopped. Stopped at 84% of test 6 first, then next attempt screen loaded only partially showing 84M e820 Std in area where other details usually also show without reaching test. I then successfully tested the other two sticks, and returned to problem stick. It tested for seven seconds and stopped. On reboot tested for 25 seconds and stopped on pass 4.

Sometimes after ram change, boot stalled at splash screen, but proceeded after restart.

Should I try testing it in my ddr2-667 Asrock dualvista?
Tried it in Asrock as 667, tested fine.
Remembering raised voltage tried problem stick in gigabyte board at 800mhz and 1.8V with memtest too, still stalled.

I would say from that you have a dead stick, and should RMA the set. 1.8V? IS that what you are testing with? If so that is why it fails, those sticks likely are 2.0-2.1 right? If so you need to manually set that when you test.

I would say since 3 pass and one fails you have a dying stick in there, and I would RMA the set.

I would also suggest if you do decide to get Mushkins, that you go ahead and internet order some Mushkins if you cannot get Blue or Black models (XP Black/HP Blue) at your store. The silver ones are Value as you said and are more based on use in a OEM System or something you are not planning on tweaking, they will work but of course you know what Value means right... Right.

Only tried it at 800 and 1.8v after 2.1 and 800 didn't work. The acid test really.

I assumed it was an inadequate, dead or dying stick, but waited for yr opinion. Respect and Many Thanks. Your help invaluable.

They are 1066 sticks right? Either way a fail at 800 and 2.1 is a bad stick for sure

Yes, exactamon. I'm going to rma them at the counter tomorrow and try to get a replacement pair out of them. (Don't know why they didn't give me a pair of 2gig straight up.) If they wont replace I'll just buy another pair for now. Hopefully the replacements will be a good pair.

Given the number of x48 with corsair probs then corsair quality control seems a bit lax, and conversely the x48 would seem quite ram quality sensitive.

I couldn't find any good Mushkin on sale here in Australia in a net search, but corsair, kingston, geil and adata are common ones. The corsair will do till budget regenerates.

The rig is totally stable with the good pair, but Vista annoys with all its repetitive permission stuff.
