Thread: EP45-ds3l- Keep assigned memory settings?

  1. #1

Default EP45-ds3l- Keep assigned memory settings?

I have 2 gigs (2 sticks) of PC8500 CRUCIAL BALLISTIX, which work fine. They were rated at 5-5-5-15 @2.0. In the Bios it is set to AUTO for the memory and timings are at 5-7-7-24. Should I leave it alone, or should I figure out how to change it to what the spec lists them at? I left everything in the bios at default. I think I chose optimized defaults. Runs great. I'm coming from a 5 year old P4 -2.53, so I doubt if I could tell a difference in the settings either way.

    Thanks, Owen

Yes 5-5-5-15 will be much better.

You will need to make the following changes >>>
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) .........:Set to 100

    DRAM Performance Control
    Performance Enhance...................: [STANDARD]
    Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).....: Disabled
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: [400]
    System Memory Multiplier ..............:
    Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............:
    DRAM Timing Selectable ................: [Manual]

    Standard Timing Control
    CAS Latency Time........................5
    tRCD ......................................... 5
    tRP'...........................................5
    tRAS..........................................15

    Motherboard Voltage Control
    Voltage Type.………... Manual

    DRAM
    DRAM Voltage ……....1.800V............: 2.0V

If you will tell me your full specs (CPU and CPU Speed you are using. And to be sure this ram is 2x1GB not 2x2GB right?) I can tell you how to make them run at 1066 as well, since they are likely running at 800Mhz now. All 1066 ram is 800MHz ram until the user manually sets this.

    Thanks for the help.
Correct, the memory is 2 sticks at 1 gig each
CPU: E8400 Stock 3.0 GHZ speed.

The memory shows up as 1066 when I was looking on the Dram performance control section. The performance enhance is set to turbo. Probably when I set it to optimized originally?
Pretty much the only thing I did in the bios was set my boot device and go Optimized, everything else has been left alone. I've never OC'd before.

You can leave the below on AUTO if you like, but it wont be the best. But to tweak below takes lots of time. Let me know if you would like me to give you some values for these and I will. I left them out because you said this is your first board, And I thought I would let you enjoy it being stable for a while before you got into tweaking more and lots of testing.

I forgot P45/43 boards now have XMP. This was likely enabled which is why you had 1066 speed but 577-24 timings.

It is a easier way to set things, there should be 3 choices, one will be the %77 timings and the other two should be better. Such as 555-15 and so on. You can also easily just choose the better one of these and then do nto manually set things.

You will/should still set your DDR2 voltage though if a XMP profile does not load it, but it may

If you do decide you want to start overclocking please read thru both pinned guides I have posted to familarize yourself with some of the BIOS terms and Memory settings. Yes it does show a different BIOS then the P45, but you can learn alot from both of them

Then if you decide to overclock and need some help post back With what you are attempting and I can give you some full suggested settings to try

    Thanks for this.

A couple of things I notice when I applied the settings.

In the DRAM Performance Control-Sys memory multiplier, I was given the options of 2.00d, 2.66, and 3.33. but not 3.2.

2.66 put the memory at 889 and 3.33 at 1111. I put at at 3.33. This okay?

When I changed the memory values to 5-5-5-15, it looked like there was a space for a couple of numbers in the values they looked like this.

On the left are the cruddy values. They look like they're still there, so I might have missed something. Saved and exited.I tried profile 1 to see what it did, and the setting went to 4-4-4-12. I'm back to what I tried to change it to.

It looks like the image when I boot up.

Yes 3.33 would be fine as long as you ram will handle 1111, if not you will need to lower your FSB, or raise it and choose a different combo closer to 1066. Or there is many other ways to go about that, lower mutli and higher FSB, but I would choose to keep the 9 multi and just adjust the FSB higher bit until you could choose one of the memory mutli's under 3.33 that are closer to 1066

That BIOS images looks correct, what you have on the right is what you set and what the board is using.

The 4-4-4-12 profile will likely not work or load at 1066 speed, it will for sure at 800 though should you decide to do some testing to see if it is better at 800 or 1066/1111

I am here to help, tell rockyjohn I said hello! I try when I can, good luck in your testing/setting up. If you need any more help please feel free to post back

Thanks...Just curious, but why the spaces in front of the numbers. the first 5 is right, but the rest.....odd looking.

I'll go through the rest of your suggestions tonight and see how it goes. The puter does seem to load apps faster now.

    Appreciate the help.

Not sure, yeah it does look odd!

Did you check with CPU-z that the ram is running at the set 555 timings?

Glad I could help a little, post back anytime
