    Default GA-EP45-DS4 system keep freezing

    Hello,

Few days ago i made a new computer for my son with following configuration:

    Motherbord GA EP45-DS4
    INTEL Q6600 CPU
    2x2GB DDR2 800Mhz APACER CL5
    HDD Seagate 1TB S-ATA
    GF 9600GT 650Mhz 512MB DDR3
    DVD-RW NEC AD7201S
    PSU BE-Quiet 550W
    Windows Vista Ultimate

After installing Vista and all the drivers my son installed a game.
After a few min playing the system stoped running without any error message or blue screen. Nothing worked so i had to power down the PC with the power key.
First i thought it was a software problem in the game but after installing a other game, same problem.

Then in used memtest86 but also here after a random time (0.5-2 min) memtest86 freeze.
I tried the memory in my computer and used memtest86 and all tests passed.
Used my memory (4x PATRIOT DDR2 1GB 800Mhz CL5) in the new PC but same problem.
Flashed BIOS to the latest version (F7) no difference.

Downloaded Memset and changed the Timings in BIOS but without succes
Any1 can help me solving this problem please?
Sorry about my bad English im from Belgium lol

Can you please post back to me the settings you are using in the MIT section of the BIOS?

You did install the Intel Chipset Driver package right? If not or you are not sure download and install it again just to be sure. You want the file called "infinst_autol.exe" after you choose your system >>>>
Download Software, Drivers and Utilities Filters

2x2GB usually needs some manual adjustments. Mainly more MCH voltage and tRFC set to a certain amount. This does sound like a memory issue for sure like you had thought. I do not think Apacer is incompatible but you are the second person to have some trouble this week with it. But I think it may just be some settings need adjusted

Please also look on your ram sticker or where you bought it and note to me the specified voltage for it as well.

Here is a template I use, do not pay attention to any numbers in it. Just replace with yours so I can have a look at what you are using >>>>

Johan, Did you try running the system on one stick of memory? I had many problems initially, which mostly got ironed out over time, but initially, I was only stable on one stick, and then only stable with both sticks in single-channel mode. Be patient - I'm sure folks on this forum can get you running smoothly, as it does not seem to be a problem with your DIMMs.
Also, are you sure you set the BIOS to optimal defaults and rebooted once subsequent to your flash to F7? Check to make sure you are still at F7 (CPU-Z or similar will tell you).
You're not alone - these boards are notoriously difficult to get running (see the many threads on this forum and elsewhere). Once you get it fixed, though, they are decent platforms.

    Hello,
Yes i did try with one stick and with 2 sticks in single channel but same problem.

I'm gonna try the settings now that Lsd posted hope this will give me some better result :)

    Thanks

Ok i tried alot of times with different settings but nothing better.
What is strange is that after each test memtest86 freeze quicker and quicker.

    Test 1 freeze after 2:20min
    Test 2 freeze after 1:25min
    Test 3 freeze after 1:15min
    Test 4 1:09min
    Test 5 1:04
    Test 6 0:59
    Test 7 0:57
    Test 8 0:53
    Test 9 0:51
    Test 10 0:49

Then i turn computer off switched power off and waited for 10 min then i started it back up with the latest settings and run memtest again now it freeze only after 2:50 min.
After this i installed a other graphics card (ATI HD3650) and reloaded the optimal defaults and memtest froze after 4:13min

Tested a few more times but again its freezing quicker and quicker again.
Then i changed the powersupply but same problem:(

I think its a mobo problem now.

Please post what settings you are using that is failing. And please do not say to many to post, as you should not be using tons of variables or you will never know what is wrong.

I see you are testing your ram, are you 100% sure your CPU is stable? If so then ok, but I had to ask as you should not attempt to overclock one or get one stable if the other is not.

So please post which settings you are trying now that are failing and I may be able to see if you have something that is not right but looks as it should be. Ahh ya know the drill, lets see the settings

I use tests #2 and #5 for quick results. If #2 passes for about 5-10 minutes I will switch it to #5 and let it run for about 10 minutes or more.

That lets me know if the recent ONE CHANGED SETTING was too much or not enough of something, or if it was a ok change.

If it passes this I will do the same process for a few more. ONE AT A TIME.

Then once I feel they are all reasonably low and stable I will do some full runs of the main full test that runs by default (All tests in order I think it how it is, never watch it) and a hour or two of #2 and #5 again to be sure.

    Thanks for the reply Lsd.

A month ago i made the same computer for a friend with allmost the same configuration except the powersupply (850W now 550W) and CPU (Q9300 now Q6600).
His system runs very good and never had any trouble.
Yesterday i phoned the company where i bought the mobo and they will send me a new one tomorrow.
So i will wait now to do anything else and see what it gives with the new mobo.

Thanks for everything and ill post the results tomorrow after installing the new mobo.
