    ran memtest to make sure agian and prime95 again and all is good geez this is scary because its almost too easy.

    Easy eh? Yeah it will get easier for you for sure once you get the hang of what does what!

    I can for sure post you some better settings, For sure you can do better. Either faster MHz on the ram since you are running 1066 at 800, or tighter timings at the lower Speeds

    But I need to see the full MIT settings before I can make suggestions, so please when you post settings post it all at once. Thanks

    Default Looking to OC GA-EP45-DS3 w/ E6400 & 2*2GB OCZ Reaper 8500 DDR2

    Hey all,
    I've been reading through this thread and picking up little hints here and there, and I'm stunned at how knowledgeable the people here are.

    So anyway, I though I'd piggyback off the end of this thread as my system is fairly similar:
    GA-EP45-DS3
    Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz (w/ Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme)
    2*2GB OCZ Reaper 8500 DDR2 rated @ 5-5-5-15
    Antec Neo 550W

    I'm hoping to clock up the CPU to 3.4GHz and the RAM to 1200MHz. I've had this CPU for a while and just bought the mobo and RAM, so I know what the CPU is capable of - I've had it run stably @ 3.32Ghz before, so I know it can do it. I figure I'll shoot for 3.4Ghz :)

    So far I've had a fair bit of trouble getting it past anything but pretty crappy settings. The fastest stable OC I've gotten is 2.84GHz. I think I almost got it stable @ 2.96 because Memtest86+ ran on tests 2 and 5 for half an hour, but when I left it running Orthos (CPU & RAM test) overnight it BSOD'd.

    I've used LSD's template to show my settings for the 2.96GHz OC - I've put the settings that I think are important in bold.

    I'd prefer to go up to 3.2 or 3.4 (), but this might be a good place to start.

    Best to make your own thread next time.... So I dont get confused!

    Your CPU wont have a 9 multi is why you only have 6-8.

    2.3V is out of your warrantied amount for you ram. And I do not suggest using anything 2.2 and above without a fan on the ram for sure. If warranty is nothing to you then you may want/need to use 2.3 but lets get there first. Most ram will not need it, and can do 1000-1200 with 2.1-2.2

    Your ram may not do 1200 either, just so you know. What you see someone else post may be hand picked chips or just a very knowledgeable person with a killer board. Never expect anything from items you buy over and above what they are spec for. Yes, most do more but alot of the same will not do the same as what you see someone else do with it. Too many variables are involved

    This is what I would suggest for you to use for 3.2 (Well do 3.4 later once you get 3.2 stable a bit)

For your high speed ram dreams I would suggest you use 333, but you should try both 333 and 400, and yes it will change available memory multi's below. You will likely have best results with 333, but you may need to get 400 running to run your ram as high as you want it

    See how that fairs for you, if you get going I can better help you with your ram wishes for 1200 maybe. Try setting all to highest for now

    Yeah, I don't necessarily expect 1200 on the RAM, but I'd like to get it up around 1120 at least - that's just below the smallest OC I've seen the reviewers get.

    I set everything as you said, using the highest values when you stated a range, but I had trouble with the FSB Strap.

    I set it to 333MHz and I didn't get the option to set the SMM to 2.66 as you suggested. I went up to 400MHz and that allowed 2.66, but the system rebooted a bunch of times and went back to defaults.

    I switched it back down to 33MHz and set the SMM at 2.4, which gives me a mem frq of 960. It booted fine, but given the memory is rated at 1066, that's actually an underclock :P The only other option with that strap is SMM @ 3.2, which yields 1280MHz - way too high, I imagine.

    What's your advice for getting the memory frequency up? Also, what other changes would you suggest making to increase speeds generally?

    Well you are going to need to use a higher FSB then and use the 400 Strap it sounds like.

    I forgot so can you post all the memory Multi's for 333 and 400 separately, then I will post you a few CPU/ram multi combo's to try out

    Try this 400 strap one first, it may have been 400 exact why you could not boot it before. That or your CPU is not stable

    It really sounds like you should read the pinned guides or some more info at different sites. I say this because it sounded like you just gave up after one try with the 400 strap. Things just dont happen on one try, many hours can be spent in trying to set or get a overclock goal reached.

    CPU and MCH may or may not need more then stated above for the various combo's listed. You just have to tinker around. 1.5 MAX for 65NM CPU

    MCH will not need more then 1.45 or so. If you think it is telling you it does, then it is not the answer but rather likely timings or the ram just is not going to go there. I would say 1.35-1.4 is plenty for any speed with 2x2GB

    Thanks for the CPU/RAM multi combos - I'll give them a go and let you know what I find.

    I've read the stickies on this board, and a bit elsewhere - I do definitely appreciate that (stable) overclocking takes a lot of time and persistence, but I think I don't yet know enough about it to know what to tweak and when, hence I came back and posted what I'd found.

    For instance, it seems like your suggested fix for the 400MHz strap issue I encountered (where I had my FSB @ 400MHz and it wouldn't boot, and you recommend I increase the FSB) isn't very intuitive - not to me, at least :)

    A question: if I'm running the Orthos prime CPU test and it's failing, will increasing the CPU Vcore improve the stability?

    Thanks again for your assistance - it's truly invaluable. I'll go and read up on FSB straps and whatnot :)
