    Default EP45-DQ6 Bios Settings

I have been having problems with my new system build. It freezes up after a random amount of time and I have tried everything I know to correct this. I am currently trying to reinstall Vista but have been getting a blue screen. I just took out my second stick of ram and the install looks to be going well. I will keep this thread updated with my progress.

Now the reason for my post. I would like to know what the best settings for my BIOS would be. I am hoping that correct settings will prevent the freezes from reappearing with the new installation.

    Here is my setup:

    GA-EP45-DQ6 F9 Bios
    Q9450 Processor
    TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF Memory
    Thermaltake W0116RU 750W Power Supply
WD Raptor X 150 GB HDD

    Thanks for the help!

Install went well. In order to get both sticks working I changed my tRFC to 57 and MCH to 1.2 since I saw a previous suggestion of yours in another thread. I am currently installing all of the Windows Updates.

I also just had a screen pop up in M.I.T. section that said the system experienced a boot failure due to overclocking or voltage change and that last settings don't coincide with h/w states.

Well everything was looking good until I installed SP1. Now my system is loading windows and working for a while and then...a bunch of colored lines show on the screen and the system restarts. I am exactly where I was before spending the entire day reinstalling Vista. Absolutely lost at this point...

Ahh yeah SP1 wont install I found unless it is a clean install with no drivers installed.

I had to do a clean install with NONE of the Board drivers, or Intel drivers before I could get SP1 to install.

I would suggest you download the stand-alone version of the SP1 installer and use it. Do a clean install of Vista, do not install any drivers or vista updates, then install the SP1 package >>>>

Ok. I'll try that when I get home from work. What do you think about my bios settings?

Well for now this should be set to standard >>
    Performance Enhance...................: [Turbo]

As for the rest I will help you with once you get home and get things all reinstalled. Those will be good to install again with though, but wont give you best performance in AUTO.

But we will get you setup for sure though, once you get around your vista headache

I am getting so pissed off with this board! I installed vista, installed sp1, loaded all of my drivers except for video card and all looked well. I tried to install my vid card (Visiontek All-In-Wonder HD, btw) and I get BOSD and system restarted itself. I finally get the drivers working so I did the rest of the ms updates and my system wouldn't boot. While trying to correct this I noticed my bios reverted back to f5. WTF!! I just flashed it back to f9 but have very little faith that anything good is going to come of this. This is my first purchase of a Gigabyte product and I feel cheated!

Well I just got home to see my computer went to sleep. When I tried to wake it, it started to load and just stayed on a black screen. So then I reset it and went into the power options of vista and set sleep to never, hit save, then for the first time this install (but like all previous installs) the screen showed a bunch of colorful lines and reset.

Please don't take my frustration with this board as frustration with this site or yourself. This is a great place and you have been very helpful. I am just getting tired of reinstalling simply to fail over and over again. I am using a borrowed PC to go online and desperately need a fix for this.

Update: Looks like that may have been an isolated incident. The pc has been running for a few hours without a problem. Looks like Sleep is a problem. That sucks because I want my system to sleep and I can WOL and then RDP into it when I need it. Hibernate wont work either. I can still WOL into it when its off but I don't think VMC can turn it on for scheduled recordings unless its sleeping. Could you please post your suggestions for my bios?

Update#2: Just installed AVG and BSOD again when I ran its update.
