Nvidia Driver issue that error would be. But since you have tested the cards switched around and such. Sounds like her PCI slot may be shorting or failing

You aren't by chance using adapters to make the PS?U's power the cards are you?

Can you test the following to add Voltage to the Southbridge >>
    ICH I/O……………….....1.550V............: 1.55-1.6
    ICH Core…………...……1.100V............: 1.15-1.45

Hope Ike don't hit ya too hard. Good luck till I hear back from you

Well, Ike did not damage us directly, but we still have no power and it looks like we won't get it till mid or late next week.

However I was able to run a generator and power up the desktops for some more tests. I moved the HDDs again, the power supply, the processor, the video card...all create the same problems. So I am RMA to Newegg again. It is nice having an identical system to test off of, but now I just want this to work.

I am not sure what you are saying above...I am just using the cables off the PSU to power the video card...same on both systems. And I did swap out the PSU with the other system so IDT that is the problem.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks,
    Rod

Ahh, well hope you get some power soon.

Nice to see you shop newegg, RMA is painless there!

What I was saying about the PSU adapter was some users use a adapter to lengthen the Cable from the PSU to the card, or adapt it to fit the correct pin-out for the card. Like a 6" extension cable, or a 6 Pin to 8 Pin converter. Sounds like you use neither

Hope your RMA is smooth, and you get electric on again soon!

I just wanted to keep this going...
My 3rd mobo is set to be delivered this afternoon, UPS already has it 'out for delivery'.

Hopefully this will be the one.

Got the new mobo in this afternoon.
No troubleshooting issues with this one!!

    Looks to be DOA.

Ok, I am continuing this just in case someone else runs into the troubles I did. Maybe this thread will be a source of good information to someone in the future.

I received the 3rd mobo yesterday evening, and immediately set about installing it and the other components into my wife's system.
After putting it all together, I fired it up...and nothing happened.
No lights, no sounds, not even a spark or puff of smoke. Nothing.

So first I tested the power cable, and it was fine. Then I tried resetting the power connectors to the mobo. Nothing. I checked the case to mobo power cable...it seemed fine and resetting it did nothing. I reseated everything on the mobo; the processor and fan, the RAM, the video card, the SATA connectors and the SATA power cables. Plugged it back in and nothing but the sound of my curses.

Next step was to test the power supply, which had worked before. Since I have two identical systems, I put them side by side and connected the power-on switch from her computer to mine and plugged in my computer. When I hit her switch, my computer fired up. Tried reversing, using my switch on her PC produced nothing. Ok, its not the switch.

Next, I connected her power supply, still in her case, to my mobo. Plugged in her PC and hit my switch...my computer worked. Tried reversing it, and her PC would not fire up. Ok, its not the power supply.

Reconnected everything in her system and plugged it in, still nothing.
Figuring that the mobo was probably DOA, I took a break, set up my pc and left the above message on Tweaktown. Then, I started taking her system apart in preparation for RMAing it. I removed the parts one by one, testing the power up each time. Video card, nothing. RAM, nothing. Cables and disconnected the HDD and DVD, nothing. Finally, I removed the processor fan power connection...and got green lights!!

Ok, good news, but still some cursing. :)
I reconnected the fan and re-mounted it to the processor and still got lights. Put each part back in, one by one, testing each step of the way.
Finally, I closed the case and booted it up.
Updated the bios to F7. Logged her in...

We played WoW for an hour and a half with no problems. With the previous mobo's WoW would lock the PC up and cause BSOD. Really, anything graphic intensive (I know WoW is not a hog, but the PC would not run Oblivion at all) would BSOD it, but now it seems fine.

Hopefully this mobo will work...and I hope this will be useful to someone.

WOW, a lot of testing you did!!!

So it was the CPU fan causing the issue or what? The connection itself, or how it was seated?

Glad to see for now it is finally usable though!

Sorry I did not get back to this sooner:
Apparently, the CPU fan power connection was causing some kind of issues, I have no idea. But now the system is usable, but still not working right. WoW or NWV2 causes error messages and the nt_4 display driver goes into a loop.

The PC works fine for most tasks, running Outlook, Excel, video on the web, burning DVD's...but any game, even WoW which is not graphically intensive, causes extreme color distortions and sometimes it just locks up.

I have already changed out the video card, RAM, , Power Supplies, Processor, fans, HDD and DVD drives. Either the mobo has problems, there is a driver issue or some other compatibility issue.

Last night, I DL the latest video drivers from EVGA. Basically, they are NVIDIA drivers slightly modified for EVGA cards. (I have tried both the NVIDIA and EVGA drivers) Then I uninstalled the video drivers and rebooted. Then I flashed the video bios with the EVGA update (Jan 08, so not new but at least I am sure I have the latest and that it is 'fresh'), and rebooted into safe-mode where I ran a driver uninstaller (cannot remember the name of the program now) to completely remove all traces of NVIDIA/EVGA drivers. Then I rebooted into XP SP3 and ininstalled the EVGA drivers and then DL (again) DirectX and then loaded the latest version (9C) and then rebooted and started WoW...and imediately it crashed (Screen wacks out, colours are *way* off) again. Same event ID errors about device driver failing.

I have read that there are issues with the 8800GT series.
In fact, I have seen some of these same issues, but no cure.

    Does anyone have any ideas?
I am about out of clues now...

Ya, I switched to ATI long ago because of too many Nvidia Driver issues. Is the card overheating at all, I mean you do watch the temps when gaming right? Are you overclocking the card at all? Are you Sure your PSU meets this cards requirements

I checked the requirement of the system against the PSU before I bought it, so I don't think that is the issue. I know you reply to a lot of posters here, so you may not remember all of my details...I have two identical systems and have been swapping parts out between them to test.
PSU, CPU, fans, video card, RAM, HDD, DVD, cables. Every part runs fine in my system, and I get the errors in her system. I am on my 3rd Ep43 mobo.

I use EVGA Precision to monitor heat on the GPU, and it runs at the same temp as on my system, even when gaming. I do not OC at all.

Not at all. Actually, I wrote them down this morning and was just looking for one of your messages when I saw that you had pasted it below.

Just as a reminder, I have this in my systems:

Ok, that is all of it.
Like I said, I have two identical systems, both have the identical bios settings. One crashes in games like WoW, EQ and NWV2. Driver errors, loops and the like.

    Thanks again for your help!!
