    Default EP45-DS3R F9 w/ Q6600 & 2x Corsair DDR2-1066 2GB

    Hi,
    New to Tweaks and have issues (computer mostly). Built a system with aforementioned components and it ran fine. Booted first time with no issues. I thought, "Awesome, it booted first time with no issues".
    Now I'm trying to overclock the CPU, just a bit. I've tried what little I know of overclocking, and tried to read up on anything I could, but system will not post after I change anything. And I don't even think I change things too drastically. Any help would be most appreciated.
    Sorry for the total newb post, and I apologize for being long-winded... I tend to write a lot while at work, it helps me not work.

    Oh, and I've read some of everyone's posts on this MB already... I'd like to try some of them tonight when I get home... but like I said, I suck at this, so I don't want to fry anything too badly. If anyone has something near the set-up I have, could you help?

    I can help you for sure!

    Is that 2x2GB ram? If so, there is some changes that must be made for sure for them to work stable, without overclocking. So without those changes then that may be why anyt changes you make are not working for you.

    First of all you need to go in advanced BIOS page and disable the following >>>
    Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]

    C2/C2E State Support....................: [Disabled]

    You will need to begin with at least 52-62 trfc set, and 1.3 or so MCH Voltage, and you will likely need to also manually set the DDR2 voltage to the specified amount on the sticker of you ram

    So, with that in mind have a look at your setting when you get home and see if that helps you any for starters.

    Then if so, or not, please post back all of your settings in this template for me and I will have a look to see if I see anything that looks to be off. And I will reply back with a full set of suggested settings for you to try >>>>

    Thanks, I will for sure get you those numbers.
    I did get the sense that I had to up the RAM Voltage since I'm running the 4GB (thanks to reading this board).
    Plan on upping it to 8GB in a few weeks (other bills to pay first).

    Yeah, I try when I am in to answer everyone soon as I can. I know motherboards can be very frustrating somedays!

    Cool.
    Yeah, I won't give up.
    It'd be nice if it was as simple as the RAM voltage.
    After that, what should I do, just up the CPU Host Frequency to maybe 333. I know it starts set at 266.
    I'm simply tying to get my CPU from 2.4 to maybe 3.0. Should be simple, yeah?

    Actually, I'll mess with it at home and just get you that info.
    No sense trying to figure stuff out until I can actually get my hands into it.

    Yeah, it is almost that easy. The ram timings and speed will have to be set, but you can leave them in Auto until I get you a full list of timings. Or start with the ones I have posted in the memory guide I pinned.

    You will have to also add CPU Vcore voltage going from 266 to 333

    And yeap, it is much easier to overclock with your computer on hand.

    The work computers usually do not have a great BIOS for overclocking like the ones we use at home do

    OK, made it home.

    Set the Advanced BIOS stuff the way you recommended, as well as set the RAM timing and Voltage according to Corsair. System started fine, booted in Windows fine too.

    OK, here is some ranges for you. Please test your ram as it is now with memtest86+ to be sure what you already have is stable >>>

    I say that because I plan to leave what you are using now as the "High" end of my suggestions. Then you will lower towards the lower settings one move at a time testing with memtest86+ between each move, otherwise you wont know what setting move caused the errors

    Hey,

    So I've been sitting here for about 2 hours now trying to get this to work. Actually tried your settings a couple of times, then started to focus on the RAM. I cant get to POST now at all. Set the RAM V's to 2.1 and timing to 5-5-5-5-15 as per RAM. and even with that it wont go anywhere. Thought i'd set the BIOS to the optimized default and run the memtest. It's going now. Perhaps it something in that advanced timing section... I wish i knew what all that meant, so i could do something more than just guess at numbers. Anyway, I'm going to let this run for now, then try more later. If you send me a link to a good place to learn up on timings, maybe i can make some more informed choices to those numbers.

    I think you should probably bump up the MCH voltage to 1.35-1.4V (Im sitting on 1.4V now i think, and i had a similar problem). Honestly, the Gigabyte newer BIOS is pretty good when it comes to memory in AUTO mode, but still you should probably tweak some of the timings for 2GB sticks. First of all, change the Frequency Latch to 333 MHz if your still using the settings listed above and change the FSB:RAM ratio to 1:3.2 (i.e. 3.20 memory multiplier).

    If you go anything above 375 MHz on the FSB, you'll wanna add some skew on the memory to increase end performance and boot reliability. 50ps should be fine until you get to over 425, in which case you might want 100ps being as you have the 9x multiplier. Clock skew for both DIMMs should be the same, but if you have to run one DIMM at a higher voltage than the other, you might also want to increase the clock skew.

    At 1066Mhz, you can probably run your corsair RAM at 5-5-5-15, but a with the newer GA boards, ive heard its desirable to increase the tRAS time to about 18. Also, increasing the tRTP and the tWRT to 6 and 7 rescpectively should help with the stability. The Command rate should be set to 1 or 2 as well.

    The CPU core voltage shouldn't need to go much higher than 1.35V for your q6600 at 3GHz, so you shouldnt have to worry about that too much, except for getting it as cool as possible, but thats really a fine tuning thing.

    And you can always update your BIOS, which might help solve the problem for some mysterious reason... I dunno why, but it might help...
