Default GA EP45 DS3R - OCZ memory problems

    Hi ya all!

First of all i'm new to this forum and my english kinda sucks :) I have read many threads ragarding this mobo but still didn't found any helpful to me. So im starting a new thread, hope it's ok ;P

    First of all my specs:
    e6850 3 ghz
    GA EP45 DS3R (F9)
    2 x 1 gb OCZ 1066
    radeon 4870
    OCZ PSU GameXstream 600W
    seageate 500 gb
    vista 32 bit

I bought the system last week, put it togehther and then my problems started, I mean:
    - memory runs only if its fitted in slot 1 and 2, do not run in dual channel mode (slots 1 and 3), every time I put memory into those slots system wont boot. The computer is working but there are no restarts (like with bios settings change), screen is black and nothing happens.
    - if I try to change any of the memory settings (ram voltage, timings, etc) system wont start either, the memory runs now at 5-7-7-24 @ 1.8 and if I change it to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1 it keeps restarting or if it goes into windows loading it freezes.

Is that just incompatible memory? Or I messed up something with the settings? It boots normally on default but still couldnt make it work in dual channel mode.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    And my bios settings:

Also, if you are not using a USB Storage drive, disable Legacy USB Storage Detect in the Advanced BIOS page. (You will need to re-enabled this is you want to use USB with Qflash later on).

Did you ever test F8 BIOS?

Nope, I went straight to F9. Will try using your settings today. Anyway I was able to run the memory in dual channel with correct timings and voltage, after I've dropped the memory multiplier to ddr 800 instead of 1066, it looks like its a temporary solution. You reckon it's worth trying F8 bios? or should I just stay with that memory speed? Because I've seen some posts somewhere thats there not much difference betwen 800 and 1066, is it true?
    Thanks.

Ya, there is not much REAL difference, you will see it only in benchmarks.

If you do plan to keep 800Mhz, most sticks you can easily tighten up things to 4-4-4-12 then since you will not be pushing them so hard. Often I see users buy Good 1066 just to underclock them. Some REAL GOOD 1066's will underclock better then the same 800 sold by the brand. Testing is the only way to see where you can go. But I would say for sure you should be able to do 4-4-4-12/15 though

You may want to try this with the above for 1066 if you still want to try things >>>
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch.................: [Auto]

Ya, you may also want to try older BIOS's, some overclock better then others. And some do cause ram errors that the others do not.

I am looking upgrading to 8 gig of ram with this motherboard.
Are you saying to stay away from OCZ brand ram?

If it doesn't run in slot 3 or 4 you might have a bad channel controller on your hands... try booting and running Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool with just one stick in slot 3 (if it works then use the other stick)... if it works then you know its probably your memory (or settings)... if it is indeed the board you can always RMA

Wow. I'm shocked Crucial or Corsair are not on your list, as I thought those were two of the best brands out there.

FWIW, I have the same OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 PC1066 RAM (Platinum version). I'm currently using the F10g BIOS and all memory settings are set to Auto. The board detects the EPP profile perfectly fine and sets it to the right timing.

It passed Memtest overnight with around 50 passes @ 1066 and default 5-5-5-15 timings with 0 errors.
