    Default Getting rid of gigabyte

my board has 4 slots for ram but doesn't work with all 4 slots populated with 'double sided ram' it has to be SINGLE SIDED RAM. what a ****ing inconsistency , sure to be expected with cheap boards but it's stupid that gigabyte didnt want to save some money and put 2 slots on the board instead of 4.

It's a P31-DS3L, so a cheap board but i'm sure if i put my money elsewhere i would of gotten a board which isn't such a gimmick.

This happens at the same time as the P45 board I just purchased i had to return the next day (yes i demanded my money back - no way was I going to RMA it for the crap i'd get back). I had faith in gigabyte one day and now it's all gone.

I might go and pick up an evga 780i which sure you pay for it but wont be a gimmick compared to gigabyte boards the same price.

    Sorry to hear that!

It will work with double sided ram, P31 will if that is the board you are talking about. Do you need some help with settings for it, or did you already take both back?

You will have worse issues with Nvidia Based chipset for sure, If you do indeed hate Gigabyte now I would suggest a Abit or Asus. Something at least still Intel Chipset, Those SLI boards are HAVE SO many problems I see it daily!

Alright i'm open to what settings I should put into the bios as well the cable management i've done in this rig will make the motherboard hard to remove (the wires are routed tight around absolutely everything and theres the graphics card to remove.

I've already tried adding 0.1V to everything and it will be stuck at the post screen sometimes or boot but not power USB up and nothing on screen.

I'm like the 'technology antichrist' i always break technology somehow or it wont work for me.

OK, please post your full specs then, CPU and speed , what your ram voltage, timings and speed is on the sticker and I can make some suggestions. But yeah P31/43 is the "Budget" boards and not the real overclockers but you should for sure be able to get that running.

    And this is 4x1GB right?

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

yes it is 4x1gb. I'll find the subtimings abit later but i'm certain the rest is what i put in before rebooting then attempting to install the other 2gb .

    K, I would suggest this for 4x1 800Mhz.

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
    CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [333]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.40] (so a 5:6 ratio)
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time________________ 4
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______4
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-5
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6
    Write to Precharge Delay_________6-8
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 52-65
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-6
    Static tRead Value_______________ 7-12
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ (AUTO ALWAYS SET TO AUTO)

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.200V] = 2.0, +.3 +2.1V (2.1 is safe for DDR2 rated at 2.0, so you can try that as well if you like last if you have no luck otherwise)

    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V] << +.20 - +.25 - .30 << Needed for 2x2 or 4x1 Ram (.25 is a good guess at what may be needed)

    CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.184(stock - cpu-z reading)]
