    Default GA-EP45-DS3R and Ubuntu

    This may be a better question for the Ubuntu boards. I am wondering if anyone has been able to run Ubuntu or other Linux distros on this board or any other board with the P45 chipset? Installation seems to come to a dead stop at the BusyBox initramfs shell. I have tried the latest versions of Ubuntu as well as PCLinux and the same thing happens. I have seen scattered references to this chipset not being supported by Ubuntu. Don't know about other distros.

    I have been able to install and run it, but I had the same problem first. To get the installation to run, you need to add the following parameter to the kernel:

    generic.all_generic_ide=1
    you need to choose the option where you can edit the kernel parameters for booting the cd/dvd (I guess F6 key). Then edit the parameters, append this parameter at the end, and start booting using this params.

    After installation I had to add this option to the kernel parameter in grub as well. Depends which bootloader you use. If I remember right, you need to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst for GRUB.<!-- / message -->

    That's good to know. I was unable to get Ubuntu to work either, so ended up going with OpenSUSE (which I'm glad I did, now). In any case, handy to know how to get around that problem.

    Thanks for the advice. I got it to work with the generic.all_generic_ide=1 command after pressing F6. Seems to work with all Debian based distros.

    The first time I tried installing Ubuntu it did not finish installing, but for whatever reason the 2nd time around it worked. I was using the 8.04.1 LiveCD x86 install.

    The problem I did encounter was not having proper Nvidia drivers for my 9800GT. Since I was stuck at 800x600 resolution, I didn't play around with it long enough to see what other incompatibilities there were.
