    Nice results. Have you tried raising trd (Static tRead) a bit and then you can lower the others? Maybe even you can at 5 or 6, but maybe not. It will improve your Super PI times for sure

    I would say at 6-7 tRD you can lower these >>>

    Awesome. Thanks for the suggestions, L. I'll tweak all of those values this week and respond. Right now I've got some neglected assignments to turn in. ha Anyway, I think I'm making some good progress with the S3G. Later.

    1M SuperPI is now consistently at the 19.6s level.
    3DMark01 is now improved in the same 25.5k level.
    3DMark03 is now improved from 9.4k to the 9.5k level.

    "Apply"ing settings from Windows through MemSet, then running 1M SuperPI, was a quick evaluation of performance & feasability. Then I'd boot to BIOS and save a few changes, then boot to REAL mode MemTest86+ v2.01 floppy to confirm stability. Since MemTest86+ takes ~20min to run the full 1-8 series, and since Test#5 Block Moves is the only test that has ever found errors for me, I decided to loop Test#5 alone (~70sec) to save time on repeated config changes.

    What I learned is that looping Test#5 makes my dimms HOT. After 11-12 loops it begins to detect errors, which I currently believe are caused by HEAT, rather than misconfiguration or hardware defect. So, I've limited my preliminary testing to looping Test#5 just four times, which lasts about 5 minutes before I escape.

    I'll continue to use this configuration daily for a while to see how it reacts. So far, it works for me. Thanks L, and the entire forum, for helping me grind this out.

    I'd suggest Test #2, 5 and 7 for quick results. But I do let them go thru several cycles each, 10 or so for #2, 5 or so for #5, and 5 or so for #7

    Surprised 444-12 @ 1.9v is stable at 938Mhz, how long have you fully let memtest86+ run on this?

    Errors are caused by improper settings not heat, for sure. I reply as I read so sorry for just now seeing you have errors. I am not surprised. 444-12 will likely only be stable up to about 850-875 and that is pushing it at 1.9V

    So just to keep you properly informed that setup is not stable for sure. Full memtest86+ is suggested for several hours to be sure, but like I said those settings are almost for sure (95%) not going to be stable

    You do want stability/reliability over speed/performance. So if you do like that setup for performance and benchmarking and understand it is not stable then save that as a BIOS profile and then for your DATA's sake please make a stable profile for everyday use

    F11 is Save on the MAIN BIOS page, and F12 is load

    I just raised my mem to 938 from 900 a couple days ago, so it's not yet been tested enough to be declared anything by me, except "untested". I'd previously set it as high as 1050 555-15 with +0.1v in BIOS.

    Here's my SpeedFan voltage readouts, which have always been steady:
    +3.3V: 3.39-3.41 ... +5V: 5.00-5.03 ... +12V: 12.10-12.42 ... Vbat: 3.12

    Vcore1 ... reads my CPU at 1.41>1.39 when set at 1.3875v in BIOS.
    That appears to correlate with CPU-Z, which reads 1.408>1.392 droop>drop.
    It also agrees with PC Health in BIOS, which reads 1.412.

    Vcore2 ... reads my mem at 1.97-2.00 when set at +0.1v in BIOS, and 2.08-2.10 when set at +0.2v in BIOS.
    PC Health reads 2.096 when set at +0.2v in BIOS.

    "Errors are caused by improper settings not heat, for sure." ... thanks, I value your experience in these matters. They do get HOT enough that it concerns me anyway, so I may be slowing them down before they smoke.

    F11/F12 ... works for me.

    I'm aware that the settings I've shown are extremely low, and I'm not euphoric about them. I know they're not gold, and I'm not out to break any records on this 3phase board. I will say that I'm amazed that the only time I can recall that this pooch has ever crashed was when I applied RAS-to-CAS Delay=3 in MemSet ... ha, don't need to try that again.

    Ya, they might! I have always thought G.Skill had some think heatsinks, same as Crucial. Feel like paper!

    But I am not really sure what is considered hot for DDR2, likely far more then you are experiencing since you are only using 1.9V. What are you measuring temps with for ram? Your fingers or a Thermal Sensor or what?

    You mean 443-12 crashed on you? Have you tried to boot it, not use memset? What was the trd when you tried this? I would suspect either way you can boot it just you need 2.0 or so volts

    I was just using my fingers. By far, the hottest I've ever felt them was while continuously looping Test#5. They felt almost as hot as my NB before I attached its 50mm fan.

    I only tried 434-12 through MemSet. I may have to try it again in BIOS, after I decide to stop MemTest86+.

    You see, L, I took your advice, and bumped the juice another tick (+0.2v), then started the full 1-8 suite of MemTest. It completed pass 21 a little while ago, with zero errors, and it's still running after more than 7 hours!

    The mem is not as hot as it got when looping Test#5 alone. The temperature is not cautiously hot to me & my fingers, while running the full 1-8 suite. Apparently it relaxes enough in some of the weaker tests to dissipate some heat.

    Yeah, tests 5 and 7 will make it hot when it is looping them, that is why they are good tests. Overall ram can get pretty hot before heat will cause it to fail. Your ram will be fine no matter how hot it is really until you go over 2.1V. Then you will sizzle your finger if you touch it, and a fan would be needed for anything over 2.1

    2.1 and under is fine without a fan, 2.0 even more so

    Glad to see you are making such good progress!

    You will just have to find you happy medium now between tightest timings and stability.

    And keep doing a bandwidth test each change as well, sometimes to low can decrease performance but still be stable, so if you are not checking you might not notice until later. Then you wont know which it was

    I escaped MemTest after 37 passes, 12 hours 5 minutes, with zero errors!
    Then I discovered that prior to running MemTest, I had changed tRFC=37 (from 38).
    Then I looped Test#2 x10, #5 x6, and #7 x6 ... again with zero errors.
    Test #5 runs hotter than #7, but #7 runs longer.

    I updated my voltage readings in post#26 above. I am running 2.1v memory and 1.4v cpu. I may pull the mobo and repaste the NB & CPU HSs. I've read that my 8W553B1M3 can be shimmed-out from below for a tighter fit, and I noticed upon install that it wasn't flexing the springs. It's a very nice mount, though.

    You're right about too low can deter performance, and I'm not sure that tRFC=37 will remain.
    So far, so good.

    You're also right about striking a happy medium between tightest timings and stability ... it doesn't last 2 minutes in Orthos at these settings ... ha.
