    Default GA-EP45C-DS3R DDR3 Memory Problem

Hi, I just built a new computer, but I've come across a bit of a snag.

Whenever I put my 2x2GB DIMMs into my computer, it constantly reboots. I've gotten it to get to Vista a couple of times, but it never lasts long before eventually crashing.

It was a bit more stable with just one stick of RAM, but it still crashed pretty frequently. I increased my motherboard's MCH voltage to 1.3v and then my problems disappeared. However, I still can't use both of my DIMMs at the same time.

I've been using it for a couple of days straight with the single stick configuration, and it's been running great. I've also tried swapping the sticks, and both of them work fine individually, so I don't believe that the DIMMs themselves are bad.

    Specs:
    Gigabyte GA-EP45C-DS3R - Bios Ver: F4
    Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

You ideally need to relax the main timings to find a starting point. The guide at the top of the first page is more DDR2 specific, so it may be best to get some feedback from LsdMeasap (the forum mod) or other members who have set up 4GB of DDR3 successfully.
Whilst this forum is excellent for all your Gigabyte needs and more, you can often find specific setup information on the OCZ and Corsair forums.

Personally I'd do a search on the Corsair forums (re your XMS3 DHX 4GB) as the Corsair tech (The Ram guy) responds in detail to many posts. Then inconjunction with this forum, I'm sure you'll get it all set up ok.

Well first off you should always test with The latest Memtest86+ each stick one by one as soon as you buy them to be sure you did not get shipped DOA sticks (MUST Be newest 2.01 Version for your board, older will fail/error for no reason) >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Test each stick one by one, at stock speed, timings, and voltages. Let a few full tests run on each stick

As for timings and voltage adjustments, you FOR SURE do need them with 2x2GB ram. You will need to set several things, such as but not limited to MCH voltage, Possibly MCH skew, Ram voltages, trfc differently then 2x1 or one 2GB stick

I cannot advise you with some settings until you post more info. Please post your full system specs, and what CPU you have. And fill this in with the settings you are trying that fail. (I am more interested in CPU multi and speeds, and other voltages you are using, I will advise ram settings for you)

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Ok I take it that is stock that you want settings for? You will have to overclock for sure to run that ram at it's fastest, but these settings should get you started.

Please set only the voltages first, then reboot and put in the second stick of ram. Then set ONLY MCH latch and reboot. Then set Memory multiplier and Static Tread Value and reboot. Then you can set the rest more or less all at once. You may also choose 1200 or higher Driving strength profile. If you do not see that on the static Tread page, please download the latest BIOS and flash to it >>>

I set my BIOS to the voltages specified, but when I put in my second stick of RAM, it still continuously reboots before getting to POST.

Hmm, Try all voltages again, and then also trfc to 75 before you reboot. Everything else on auto

Is that Ram on the QVL? I think another user here had issues with the same sticks

    Still no go...
The exact model of RAM I'm using isn't on the QVL, but its 1GB equivalent seems to be. I planned on ordering a different motherboard at first, but switched to this one last minute, so it's what I'm stuck with.

Should I just get Corsair to replace my RAM with a QVL model?
