It had symptoms (the red light in the socket) after i installed the mobo in my case and programs too, that it would work but that was for about a day or two. I never got any sound out of it and after that there hasnīt been any sign of life either, nada (no red light in the socket). I have talked with arrangements with the shop from i bought it, they want to test it (thereīs nothing to test) and get back to me in two weeks. I donīt have an other board for Pentium D 940 so havenīt taken their offer yet because have needed the power prosessor. My old rig is XP 2100+ and thatīs pretty ackward in multitasking which is my way of using a PC. For this reason i want to use Server 2008 64-bit as an OS for me and need HW thatīs suitable in every way for it. Was hoping to be able to use relatively cheap but still fast and modern board for it.

Has anyone in this forum managed to get a Server 2008 64-bit (which build?) to work on a Gigabyte board (which one?) flawlessly? There isnīt a single Gigabyte product on Microsoftīs support page that lists Server 2008 Certified HW or at least i canīt find any source thatīs telling so. Iīm not gonna use my PC just for gaming and internet, i need it as a workstation too and it really needs to be reliable, built for it too. Have been happy to see that this board hasnīt been complaining at all about the quite high board temperature that iīve kept for it to see how it takes it. Thatīs telling me that Gigabyte is using some good architecture and components on this board so it could be suitable for the job that i would need it to in that way but iīve also found out that the boards IDE controller is not supported by Solaris that i would need. Have been having something a little special in my mind for a workstation PC build..ī

BTW. Is Gigabyte offering any board for using a Solaris, Linux and Windows all together? As a workstation i mean.

Hmm, do you want me to test server 08 on my board? I can, but you will have to wait a few nights for me to download it.

I assume it works fine, I used to use a beta version of it on my P35-DS4 with no issues. And now that it is final I hear many people say it is much better then vista. And really anything compatible with vista is Server 08 compatible as they are built on th same core system

I do not know if Gigabyte offers boards for that type of system, wouldn't know where to start looking either other then newegg, and customer comments

That would be very useful to check out and if you could be so kind to report me the exact locasion (build?) from where you DL it and the exact drivers (versions?) you put into it so i can compare the builds on the general level?

What would be really useful for me to know is what does a compatibility program at Solaris site tell you about your GA-P45-DS4P and GA-P35-DS4 boards components, are those supported by Solaris?

The reason why i want to know this information from the working board same as mine too is that i want to rule out my boards possible component flaws that might be also affecting to that compatibility detecting prosess. Itīs a far out fetch, i know but still would like to know.

I do get reboots with those memory setting that we put in. Too bad i canīt afford to buy any Mushkin memory to test stability and i have to live with these of mine for now. There is really no point for me to stress my economy in buying new memory (want way more than 2GB for my next build, perhaps even 8GB or 16GB) for this board since i need a board that supports Solaris too and itīs not one of the easiest tasks to find a board thatīs not overly priced, still fast and has a very good audio chip (889A has been tested to be truly excellent! ..and i have noticed that too) with s/pdif out plus to hope it can use the new memory too.

Well I will be getting it from MSDN download center myself, but you have to be a member to get it that way. Here is the exact same version download from Microsoft that I will be getting Build 6001.18000.080118-1840 >>>>
Download details: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

Like I said though, it will take me a few days to get it. I am on a satellite and can only download large files like that during my "Free" time 3-6 AM otherwise I will kill my service and have 2kb/s speed for 24 Hours

What is This Solaris compatibility thing? Do you mean you want me to install something to scan my P45-DS4 to see about compatibility? If so give me a link and I will let you know. I cannot for P35-DS4 as I have it wrapped up for sale right now so it is not installed in anything

BigAdmin HCL: Sun Device Detection Tool

With this you can check the HW compatibility.

    No luck at all

    I installed this First >>>
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7

And I already had the latest Java Installed. So maybe I am doing something wrong, wanna write out how exactly I should be doing it?

All I get is Unable to launch the application. This is in Vista x64

All you need to do is to make sure that your PC does meet the System Prerequisites and then you just start the Sun Device Detection Tool to let it do itīs magic. It works in 32-bit and 64-bit OSīs so no problems with that. You need to have JAVA enabled. I needed also add the site to Trusted Sites in my IE7 browser in Server 2008 64-bit.
