    Default EP45-DS3 with 2 x KVR533D2N4/1G

Hello, i need your help please.

I recently bought a gigabyte ep45-ds3 to upgrade my old asus and be able to run a core2duo chip(E8600).
I'm reusing the ram i had in my previous system which worked ok, 2 modules of 1 Gig PC4200 DDR2 533. (model no. KVR533D2N4/1G).

The thing is, i'm unable to install vista sp1 32bit. The machine hangs at random time during the installation process. I've tried failsafe settings from bios, checked the hard disk, tried with another hard disk... with no luck.

My conclusion is that there must be some kind of problem with my ram. I have no experience at all tweaking ram or cpu parameters, so could anybody suggest me some bios settings for my particular system.

If i can't get this system running i will have to return to my old asus +P4 system, and i will have thrown away 300€ (chip+motherboard), and my wife will kill me ;)

run MemTest86+ (Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool) for a couple hours and se if you get any errors, then get back to us with the results... you'll likely have to change the voltages on your memory and CPU is all, but we'll see

I've already ran memtest (v 1.70) which comes with the ultimate boot CD (latest version) with no errors. But yesterday , after reading some of this forum posts, I downloaded the latest version (2.10) and it doesn't work at all, some basic data about the ram is printed and then nothing happens, no tests are ran, and it gets freezed.

Today i will rerun memtest (v. 1.70) for a couple of hours and post the
    results here.

A funny thing: I am able to install and run Fedora 9.
I can't install Windows XP Sp3, Windows Vista Sp1 or Ubuntu!!

    I'm going mad...

You need 2.01 not 2.10 if that is a error then fine, but it does work for P45 so are you sure your burned it properly? Try burning it again >>>
    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

How are you using it anyway, cd or floppy or USB?

Memtest 1.70 will not work for P35/45 it does not test things correct so you will get all errors or none

Are you loading the correct drivers for XP and vista when you install? What disk settings are you using in the BIOS

Yes sorry, i meant 2.01 and I burnt it ok... it boots, but then freezees at memtest start. I'm using it from a CD, read from a USB-CDROM.

In bios, the disk settings are in "Standard IDE mode", and vista installer detects the disk.
The problem is that there is not a pattern for the error. Sometimes freezes while copying install files. Sometimes frezees in the second boot of the install process. Even one time, i managed to get to the time settings and user creation screen, but after that, the computer freezed.

I flashed the bios to F9, if it helps.

USB CD rom may be a issue. When the disk tells the system to reboot it is likely not going to load that back properly. Dont you have a CD/DVD SATA or IDE drive you can use to install vista with?

I do not mean the IDE Disk settings or that page, I mean the Integrated Peripherals page. You need to set the Controller properly, and then also load the driver as well before you install (Vista will show you a load driver button when you see disk selection)

Did you load and apply optimized defaults after you flashed, then rebooted back to the BIOS to make your changes? If not you have to do this for a proper flash

Please post me your settings, and I will see what I can advise you to try out but you need to properly set the Disk settings first so you can get installed. >>>>
