    Default GA-EP45-DS4 optimal bios settings

    Hy everyone,

I just bought a new computer and I'm stuck at bios settings.
There are 2 problems I'm having (or think i have).
I have a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @2500 Mhz but when i open CPU-Z it shows my core speed at 2000 Mhz and multiplier 6 x 333 (even though in bios its set to 7.5 x 333)
Another problem is my RAM. Its a 2 x 2 GB Geil PC2-8500 1066Mhz BD Evo One Dual Chanel kit 5-5-5-15 timings but CPU-Z tells me its working at 400 Mhz.
I understand I have a x2 multiplier so my ram is working at 800 Mhz, even though i changed the voltage for my ram and multiplier. So i dont think my ram is working at 1066 Mhz.
Sorry but I'm new at these things so now I'm asking what settings should I have in my bios to run my ram and processor at stock speeds?
And what programs should I use to see if they are working the way they should?

You probably have C1e enabled, which automatically underclocks your CPU at idle state. This is normal.

Post your BIOS settings, it's the best way people can help you.

Yes, please disable C1E and EIST (Speedstep) in the advanced BIOS pages.

And yes, at 333 FSB you will need to use a 3.20B Memory multiplier to run your ram at 1066

You will also likely need to add some MCH voltage once you bump those up to the correct speed

So, is that stable for you? Once you are sure of that, I can if you want help you to tweak things to run better

Programs to test things like that are posted in the stickies. Memtest86+ is recommended for ram testing, and Orthos or Prime95 for CPU and CPU/Ram testing and stability

Yes it is stable. I have no problems with those settings. I will try using the programs mentioned and will post back with the results.

K, well that should be stable since it is all stock and Auto, but will not perform the best.

    Good luck with your testing

Ok so i ran orthos and this is the result:
    Torture Test ran 4 hours, 24 minutes 12 seconds - 0 errors, 0 warnings.
So I'm Happy with the CPU (i dont think i can get it to work beter without overclocking ... can I? )
But Memtest86+ says my ram is at 800 Mhz :(
And what tweaks are there to make my PC run as best as it can go without overclocking ?
    Can you help me?

Oh and i have a Gainward GTX 260 video card so do i have to change the :
PCI Express Frequency and PCI Express Clock Drive values ?

Also used IntelBurnTest and my maximum temp was 77-77-73-73 C (is this ok?)

Well since you mention overclocking and PCI, Yes please set the PCI Express freq to 100 and ALWAYS leave it there. Clock drive is fine left alone

Intel burn test is HOT, how was your temps in orthos, and what are you reading these temps with?

As for your ram at 800, did you still have this set >>>
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: [333]
    System Memory Multiplier ..............: 3.20B

If so, please look in CPU-z and tell me what you see in the "Memory" tab, not SPD, you should see 533 for Dram Freq

As for performance without overclocking, yes you can set all ram timings manually this will help you alot

Here is some suggested ranges with CPU at stock 333 FSB >>>>
    Code:
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: [333]
    System Memory Multiplier ..............: 3.20B
    Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 1065 (333 FSB X 3.20 = 1065Mhz Ram Freq)
    DRAM Timing Selectable ................: [Manual]

    Standard Timing Control
    CAS Latency Time........................5
    tRCD .........................................5
    tRP'...........................................5
    tRAS..........................................15/18

    Advanced Timing Control
    tRRD...........................................3-6
tWTR..........................................3-6 (Will need 8-12 To Boot thru first boot)
tWR............................................4-6 (Will need 8-14 to boot thru first boot)
    tRFC...........................................52-65
    tRTP...........................................3-6
    Command Rate (CMD) ....................:2

    Driving Strength Profiles
Driving Strength ............................1066 - 1200, sometimes 1200 would be best

    Channel A
Static tRead Value.........................:7-10 333 latch, 8-10 400 Latch. For 1066 at either you may need to start with 8 or 9
    tRD Phase0 Adjustment...................:Auto
    tRD Phase1 Adjustment...................:Auto
    tRD Phase2 Adjustment .................:Auto
    tRD Phase3 Adjustment..................:Auto
    Trd2rd(Different Rank)....................:Auto

I ran orthos for 4 minutes and my temperatures maxed at 66-66-62-62 C
after 20 minutes the temperatures maxed at 71-71-70-68 C
it remains constant at 70-70-68-68 C
I'm reading my temperatures with real temp (found it in this forum)
In CPU-Z my DRAM Freq is at 533 so my ram is working at full capacity ?
