    Me again,

After your opionion on RAID0. I have 4 x 80GB Seagate drives. What do you reckon is the best stripe size for gaming and booting windows ?

I set it to 128K, but I'm about to re-install everything. I have been googling and found mixed opionions about 64K / 32K and 16K being the best.

Since you game I would say 128, but 64 also works very well too. I would not use anything smaller.

Mirror your install and test both and see which is faster for you.

    Hi there,

The first bench was a quick test HDTach 3.0.4.0 at 128K

I am still at 128K strip, I ran a long test... results follow, not sure how to copy a screen shot into this blog.
    Intel Raid0 Volume 1.0
    Random access: 15.7ms
    CPU Utilization: 3%

To post a image you have to upload it to a image host. Here, use this one >>>

TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Then you copy the Direct ULR (at their page it is the bottom one that says "Direct Link for Layouts" and put it into image tags like this >>>

    [img]Direct ULR of Image Here[/img]

    No, My disks are only 7200RPM's 250GB W/ 16MB cache >>>
    Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Seagate Technology - Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 250-GB Hard Drive

    Strange... this is my disk:

    • SATA 3Gb/s interface
    • Perpendicular recording technology for maximum drive capacity and reliability
    • 8-MB cache buffer
    • Ultra-fast performance
    • Superb reliability
    • Whisper-quiet operation
    • Enhanced G-Force Protection against handling damage
    • 78 MB/s maximum sustained data transfer rate
    • Clean Sweep calibration and Directed Offline scan diagnostics
    • RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances) compliant

    This is yours:
    Key Features and Benefits:

    • SATA 3Gb/s interface
    • Perpendicular recording technology for maximum drive capacity and reliability
    • 16-MB cache buffer
    • Ultra-fast performance
    • Superb reliability
    • Whisper-quiet operation
    • Enhanced G-Force Protection against handling damage
    • 78 MB/s maximum sustained data transfer rate
    • Clean Sweep calibration and Directed Offline scan diagnostics
    • RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances) compliant

And my 80GB platter is running slower than 250GB platter(s) ? In addition I have 4 drives in a strip. I must be doing something wrong again.

I removed the jumpers off the back, I wonder.. guess I will start googling again.

Nope, documentation says remove jumpers to ensure 3mb/s.

Have you got a hardware controller ? How have you created your RAID0 ?

Jumpers should be removed. I think it is just the single platter in mine and 16MB cache

Is those 80GB disks 7200 RPM?

I use the onboard Intel ICH10R controller, RAID Created in RAID BIOS
