Eeeer, I think you can ignore that last question.. I have been having problems with a hard drive in my rig, i.e. keeps on asking to run a fsck against it..... I was googling and found this drive may be the cause... I will disconnect it and try shuting down tonight.

Sounds driver or OS Related to me. PCI Express Freq locked to 100?

    What does this mean? >>>
i.e. keeps on asking to run a fsck against it

Sorry, I am a Solaris Admin... but I know very little about Wintel or x86..

FSCK is a filesystem check in Unix... I couldn't think of the wintel terminology at the time of writing and I thought you being a guru would have come accross that term before.

Thanks for the driver "hit", I have had a problem since the last install were a message keeps coming up about new hardware found when the pc boots... in device manager it mentions the audio device. I tried fixing it witht he motherboard driver DVD, but it didn't work. I alwas had the intention of re-installing again soon, so I just ignored it. That's probably the problem then.

I had another silly question for you... would bumping up my memory to 4GB allow me to over clock my system further. In other words give me more stability or somthing due to the addition hardware/voltage spread or something ?

Ahh, kind like chkdsk (Checkdisk) for windows. I got ya. Nope, I dont see much Linux, other then a few bootdisks I use (Which Likely offer the check) but I rarely use them. Ohh and Ubuntu, but that is likely not the same either but I rarely step into it either.

So do you let it run then or not?

Did you install your sound driver or is there not a Linux one you can find anywhere? Not sure if RealTek lists them at their site, have you looked?

No 4GB would not allow a higher overclock. It is actually better to overclock for speed with 1-2GB (I often only put in 1GB stick or 2x1 when doing a high bench as I can clock the highest that way) 2x2 or 4x1 would lessen your overclock potential but not by much at all really so you can for sure get 4GB. I just wanted to let you know it would not "Add" to your overclock potential as you asked

I have removed that hard drive now. Seems my shutdown problem has been resolved too.

I still have the audio drive missing, but I am not too concerned becauseI will be re-installing soon which I hope will fix that problem. I have my wife's 8 year-old nephew in the house playing games during the holidays. I don't want to wipe his saved games.

I am running XP Pro at home, I just said fsck because that is what I am used to. Thanks for the info on the mem size and OCing

Last night for the heck of it I took my PC to 475 / 4GHz. Unfortunately; it falls over on memtest86+ early on in the third test. I will send my settings through a bit later today. If you donít mind taking a look, when you have some time. I remember you said it may be too much for the CPU. But I would like to find the "ceiling" of my rig.

    Have a good Friday, LSDMEASAP

Hmm well sorry I dont know how to stop that? I do know you can stop chkdsk a few ways

Ya, sounds like you just need to do some tweaking is all. Let me know when you are ready and I will have a look
