    Hi all.

    I'm relativy new to PC world and my english is very poor, so excuse me...

    This is my system

    Case Lian Li PC-A17 Silver with Corsair HX 620W
    Mobo GB EP45 DS5
    Intel Q9550 2,8Ghz
    4Gb RAM Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz PC8500 2stickx2Gb (yellow slot)
    GPU Gigabyte 8800 GTS 512Mb
    3 Sata HD on board (yellow slot)
    Sata DVD and other little pieces of hardware.

    I have 2 questions for you:

    1. I would like to find the optimal BIOS settings for the standard operation of the PC, using the hardware at the most as it is.

    2. I would like, also, overclock up to 3/3,2Ghz the CPU to try the excitement of the bit speed, with prior target of system stability. But I'm totally ignorant in overclock

    I have the stock fan for now, and first OC'ing my system, I'll substitute it as soon as possible...

    I write down your previous settings for next future, of course and I'll write here the results.

    For now I need the "basic" BIOS settings for optimal performance.

    you really dont want to OC too much using a stock fan... you'll want a good aftermarket cooler if you wanna squeeze a bit of extra speed out of your CPU... the q9550 should OCs really well, but you really need a good cooler.

    try these when you get a new cooler for 3.6GHz, which won't be a problem with your board/CPU combo

    start with the timings loose and tighten them one at a time, testing with MemTest86+ (http://www.memtest.org) between each change

    you can always push the FSB higher (you can probably support up to about 480+MHz on that board) to get more speed out of the chip, but in doing so you'll need to increase the voltage on the core and maybe loosen the timings a bit

    that should give you really stable settings, but you can still optimise the performance you get by getting your timings as tight as you possibly can (especially Static tRead and tRRD)... but as always, start with your timings on the looser end and tighten them up later
