Default GA EP45-DS3 + Memory problem?

    Hi.
First i'd like to point out that im no expert of any kind when it comes to computers. Second, i've read the mem timings thread but dont dare to do anything on my own.

    the Problem
I got a fairly new computer. About a month, within the first week it came into some strange endless boot procedure when booting vista. I Had to choose ''Use last working config'' in order to start it. And the days after, i had to do it more often, sometimes 2-3 times before it started.

Later on, i got a ''BIOS checksum error'' and tried everything, reseting cmos, one stick, two sticks, different slots, unplug HDD/DVD, tried another GFXcard but to no luck. And when i reseted the bios battery/cmos jumper i could not use the keyboard, both PS2/USB at any given time so i could not load the default settings. (might add, i've never OC'ed or changed bios settings. the bios version then was F5)

    Pt.2
I sended it to where i bought it. Two days ago i got the new one, same model, revision and so on. Bang! Same problem. ''Post error occured. Bios checksum error'' But this time i could use my keyboard and set the RAM voltage to 1.8v manually which was the first priority when i got the Mobo back.
Then it succeeded to POST and worked fine.

Yesterday when i booted the fan spinned for some few secs but nothing happened. It restarted by itself, same thing again. After 2-3 tried it managed to POST with one mobo beep. Since then it HAS been working good so far. But im almost sure my memory settings are wrong and i need help to set them.

First as you can see in my screenshot, alot of the info isn't what it should be according to the website. Also i only changed the Ramvoltage. Nothing else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to set several things manually for 2x2 to be stable, this is your issue.

First, set Performance Enhance to standard instead of turbo

Then you ou need to set MCH Voltage to 1.2-1.3, trfc to 54+ (52-62 optimal) and I would set ram voltage to 1.9 as that is what is stated in the link you provided for 555-15 timings, then you can manually set that as well.

If you need further help Let me know and I will post a full table of settings for you

    Thanks for the reply.
How the set performance onto Enhance and voltage to 1.9 i know how to do.
The rest i need a little more info upon. Whats MCH and tcfc?
And for 5-5-5-15 setting timings, this can be done through memset?

No, memset is for looking and testing, not to apply and save anything. All should be done in your BIOS. Have you had a look at the Guides I have posted? They will explain all of this to you.

MCH is your Northbridge, and trfc is a advanced memory setting. You will find these in the M.I.T section of your BIOS.

Please do read the guides and get to know overclocking and BIOS options a bit more so you will have a little bit of know how.

Post me a link to the exact ram you bought and I will post you some suggested settings for stock speed with your setup

I will look into the guide, but i can't promise that i will understand all of it. But im gonna try to get some insight.

Im a bit confused, i searched on the manufactioner articleID i get alot of random results which isnt excatly my RAM. The page if bought it from is on Swedish and might appear a little hard to understand. :)

    ArtID is OCZ2G8004GK
    This is the result:
    OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)

What gets me confused is that it mentions ''Vista'' in the brandname which mine doesnt. dont know if it's lacking info on the site i ordered it, but ArtID's are all the same for the same product, right?

Here is the swedish site, if it might be of interest.

I just wanted to see the voltage warrantied so either site would do. They just stick Vista in the name to try to sell it to more people, and ram will work with vista

Here is what you would want to work on for stock settings with your CPU and that ram >>>

A question before i start, am i to follow the exact numbers on the chart or only the ones you commented with an <<< and are in bold?

edit: Im having some trouble understanding the timing controls
etc ''Set to all highest below, then lower later one at a time testing between each move''

    and

tWTR..........................................3-6 (may need 12 for first boot thru)
tWR............................................4-6 (may need 14 for first boot thru)

I can hear the sigh from here =D
No but seriously, the help is really appreciated. It's that i need to be sure that im doing the right things.

All values I posted are for you, the ones in BOLD are just important. The ones I say leave, you leave at the setting they are on (Auto normally)

As for the advanced timings, set to the highest values I posted. twr, and twtr may boot for you at the value I posted but if not use the Parentheses value until you get going
