    Default EP45-DS4 E8400 4x1GB problem

    Hi there,

    recently bought PC parts as follows :

    EP-45-DS4 (rev 1.0 and bios f5 i suppose)

    E8400 E0 stepping

    2 x 2GB kit DDR2 1066MHz Non-ECC CL5 (kit of 2 - 1GB) 5-5-5-15 2.2V

    (KHX8500D2K2/2GN)

    Sapphire 4870x2

    Seagate 7200.11 750GB

    Zalman ZM850-HP 850W

    3D Aurora 570S Chassis

    After assembling all this stuff together and loading optimal settings via bios, i was able
    to install XP. The thing im concerned about is that system is not stable at all. It just
    goes black screen on random if turned on 5-20 mins, sometimes longer, and always
    goes black screen, when i try to run something heavy like a 3d game. Impossible to
    do something in a long term. I'm not a spec, but after what i did i think its memory
    fault, because prime95 gives me this one out when running "blend" :


    Tried to run memory at 5-7-7-24 @ 1.8V and @ 2.2V with no success (still couldnt
    pass prime and goes black screen..)


    Also at 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2V and 2.1V its same


    Want to mention that I stressed CPU with orthos and everyting was just fine for about 1H (max temp reached
    62-63C with no errors and such), stopped testing then.

    So, any suggestions on what is wrong and how to fix it would be appreciated. If any additional info is needed, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance.

    P.S. Maybe its just a coincidence but most stable system ran at 5-7-7-24 @ 2.2V
    I'm writing this from a new pc and already had reseted 5 times because of the black screens.
    And because Fallout 3 is out and I'm on vacation I feel dumb and helpless

    Dont know if this is right or wrong, but the only led on hte motherboard turned on when pc works is this one (green color)


    As i see it this black screen error may be caused by VGA memory, PSU, CPU voltage and what not, so i really would like to see some suggestions on what to do, to determine what is the real problem
    Maybe its few parts that is working faulty, but the thing that i cant pass prime does indicate a problem and i dont know what to start with.

    2x2 needs a few changes in the memory to be stable, Auto is not going to work. Please post me your full settings and I will advise. That LED it the only one that needs to be on when the system is running

    I see you say 2x2GB and then 2x1GB. So I looked, it is 2x1GB right? Even so you may need to adjust some other settings, please give me what you are using and I will try to help.

    As for now before I get back. Test this ram in another system if you can, if not use yours. You want to test each stick one by one at stock speed, manually set main timings and Manually set voltages with Memtest86+ (must be this version 2.01) >>>

    If you find errors in both sticks, try a different slot to be sure also you do not have a bad slot on the board.

    This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

    :) Thanks for your reply.

    1 memory kit consists of 2 x 1 GB memory modules.
    I have 2 of these kits which makes a total of 4 x 1 GB memory modules.
    KHX8500D2K2/2GN on hyperX homepage.

    Thing is i dont have other system to test ram modules. MB later this week if i wont fix everything myself using this own pc.

    Sorry for a stupid question, but how do I get .txt with bios settings ? Because this one is definately not the optimal way... :









    5-7-7-24 @ 2.2V and in 2d black screen happens quite rarely.

    Reflashed bios to ver. f9. No black screens so far.
    Ran video card stability test for 12 minutes ( to test VGA ram) no problems, stopped testing then.
    Ran memtest86+ with all 4 ram slots used for ~35mins. 100% passed, 0 errors.

    To me it seems like a hardware incompability issue between RAM and Motherboard. Hopefully solved via reflashing bios to a newer version. Will surely write, if something still occurs.

    Now I kindly request optimal bios settings for my configuration with no OC at all. And maybe other variant with OC for cpu to 3.6GHz, imo stock cooler can handle that one.

    I'm off for testing via some demanding 3d games.

    You can test with your board as well. I just said another board would be easier for you as the BIOS would not be so advanced

    Ya, you have to write in the settings in the template I posted above manually, there is now way to get them from the BIOS

    Nice to see your BIOS update helped, it often does for sure!

    Thanks for settings Lsdmeasap. Doesnt look too complicated :) probably 100 reboots before you find the real one and its ok. Will surely try that later this week :)

    Yesterday played for about 3 hours with no problems at all, so hopefully my issue is gone.

    Good luck! Ya, I could post tighter or specific timings instead of ranges to save people from 100 reboots but if I did things like that it would likely cause far more issues
