    Default Stability problems with EP45-DS3R

    Hello to all,

    I mounted my new rig just one week ago and I am having a lot of stability problems that first I thought could be related to my graphic card, anyway yesterday I run for just 20 minuts a mem86 test and I get 150 memory errors.

    After reading some post of similar systems/mainboards I think my system has become more stable anyway is not 100% stable as I still have memory errors.

    So please, could you check my settings in order to see if I am having a faulty memory or are just wrong settings on the BIOS?

    My system is:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3,0 Ghz E0 step

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE EP45-DS3R Updated to latest Bios F10

    First off, just have to check. You are using the latest version 2.01 of memtest86+ right? If not you do need to for this board >>>
    Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    And what you should do, and alway do on day one when you get ram, is this. Test each stick one at a time in slot one. Run this test at least 10 times for each stick. When you do this test, manually set the memory multiplier to whatever equals stock speed for the sticks, manually set the main timings, and ram voltages.

    That way you find out if you have a dead stick or not now/on day one, before you waste anymore time.

    I dont see good reviews for thos, but then again there is only a few posted >>>

    Sounds like 2.4V may be needed to run 1066, and that is going to be HOT for sure. I advise only 2.1 or less without a fan directly on ram, and that is ram with a heatsink on it. So you should for sure add a fan on them if you want to run 1066 or 2.4V

    I used before latest version of Memtest86+ but I as told you I had many memory errors. Today I have been testing the settings you recommended me using 1066 but everytime I tried to run this program changing some settings my computer get blocked after 10:30 minutes.

    The problem I have is that I want to be sure if the problems I had with reboots, black screen, Ati recovery when playing games where related to my Sapphire Toxic HD 4850 card or could be related to bad memory or a wrong memory configuration.

    So as you have commented I think I should run this memories on 800 instead 1066 because high voltage / too much heat. I have made a test changing the speed to 800 and I have runned 11 times Memtest86+ without any error. At least now I am sure that the memory is not faulty.

    Talking about memory reviews the only review I have found is made by a Mexican website, as I am Spanish I can understand it. I leave here the website translated by Google in case you feel it could help.

    If not, what program are you trying to use that you mention "to change some settings with"? And what are these settings you are trying to change?

    Just because you ram will pass at 800 does not really mean it is not faulty, it must pass at stock timings, stock set speed and at set rated voltages at 1066 or it is faulty really.

    That is a good review! Nice to see they can do something for sure, I know newegg reviews are not always so good! (Noobs often)

    If you do want to keep them running at 800 you could likely use these changes >>>>

    Sorry but I am not native English, I am Spanish and probably the way I speak English is not 100% correct. I apologize you because I just wanted to say that if I could enhance the 800 DDR2 configuration I was using. Anyway no problem because you have already answer my question with some additional settings that could help. ;)

    I understand that is clear that I should be able to run that memories at stock timings, but on the test I made yesterday I was not able to be without errors, probably needed some more tweaking. Anyway for me is not a problem to be running at 800 if I can get as you have suggested low latency times (or what I understand like that, sorry) because I will run my system/memory with less possible problems related to heat issues because of 2,4 volts supply.

    As my system now appears to be stable I will try to see if my Sapphire Toxic 4850 still is creating problems or not. Time to play and check if there is something wrong with it. :)

    Ahhh, Ya I thought it might just be language issue. But just wasnt sure as there is many programs you could have been using to try to change things. So I thought I better ask ya

    The single stick tests at stock settings is not about tweaking, if the ram will not run at rated speeds, and main timings, with manually set voltages the ram is faulty and should be RMA'd. Yes sure you could tweak and and run at 800, or maybe even tweak it and run at 1066, but since it will not pass stock tests you should RMA the ram as it is likely faulty and will only get worse and will eventually corrupt your data

    Hi again Lsdmeasap,

    I have found a strange error with my hardware, I will try to explain it.

    I have tried to run again my memories at 1066 so I made a lot of tries in order to see if I was able to do it. So I even tried to use Auto and a memory multiplier with D as you recommended so I was between selecting 886 or 1111 .

    I choose 1111 and saved settings, the system reboot and said Bios Checksum Error, bios auto recovery saved the bios and returned my mainboard bios to F6 version. I was feeling fear all the proccess you understand..

    When the system rebooted I used the same settings you provide me on my new F6 bios in order to be running at 1066 5-5-5-15 . I made a mem86+ test and for the first time my system is able to make 1 pass at least without errors. I will pass 9 more times in order to be sure if now is stable.

    So could be this bios F6 has better compatibility with my Geil Black Dragon DDR2 1066 than F10?

    False alarm, I was totally wrong, after 4 passes ok I have rebooted the system in order to make an intel burn test but I have found entering the Bios the message "because of overclocking or voltage" the mainboard has changed the speed to 800 so that explains why my memories were working ok on latest Mem86+ test.

    Definitely I think I should contact the internet shop where I bought it in order to RMA, there is something wrong with that memories that don't alow be running at 1066 stock speed.

    Could you please check the next page in order to see what memory should I exchange for?
