Right so to try a moderate OC (as the memory settings are loose but stable), is it just a case of changing the CPU clock ratio and CPU frequency?

Also with my memory being DDR2 800, will using 1066 as the setting for 'Driving Strength' work ok.

I was thinking of an OC of 3.2ghz initially

    Sorry, im still learning...

    Cheers.

Yeap just change FSB and or FSB/Ratio if you need to. And add vcore when it starts to fail

Yeah I find 1066 works best after about 850Mhz

No problems man, we all have to learn sometime! Good luck, and don't give up 3.2 should be pretty easy for you to get

Ok i'll give it a go, but if it all goes **** up i'll be back.

Will probably need some help tightening up the ram timings at some point.

    Cheers.

Right, ive tried as best as i can with my useless knowledge of OC'ing but try as i might ive not succedded in booting. After updating my BIOS to the F12 version form Gigabytes website, i changed the BIOS setting through various stages. The last settings i tried would boot till the Windows loading screen (the blue bar that goes across) but then the computer freezes every time. Is there anything i can change?

Also everytime i tried different settings (mainly different Core voltages) when I saved the BIOS the computer would restart and make a horrible continuous beeping noise!?! It would do this through 2 boots and restarts, then restart again, and finally start booting normally only to crash as the Windows load screen. Is the beeping normal? It didnt do it before i updated the BIOS? Currently using the safe setting from earlier in this thread which work everytime.

Latest setting i tried unsuccesfully are:

Sounds like you need more CPU voltage since you almost load windows

I would need to know the specific Beep amounts, but generally it means incorrect settings and defaults will be leaded.

Try using the 266 or Auto latch with an "A" memory multi selected and see if that helps any

Ive tried upto 1.45v in the BIOS for core voltage. Whats the highest safe amount for my processor? Also do i need to adjust the CPU Termination value when im upping the core voltage?

The beeping happens before the computer posts, its continuous beeping every couple of milliseconds for about 5 seconds then the comp restarts, it does the same thing again and restarts, then it turns on and off after only a second or so....then finally boots and tries to load windows where it freezes at the load screen. When i go into the bios after this and into M.I.T it has the standard warning about Voltages were to high and values might not be as stated.

One other thing, i got a warning of sorts when Qflash my BIOS from a FAT32 partition. Before it started flashing a box came up saying Checksum 6600, do you wish to continue? I did continue and it seems fine but can you tell me what this warnings about?

The computers seems to work fine however when using safe settings, installed Far Cry 2 last night and everythings great.

If i want too can i re-flash the same BIOS over the top of the one thats on there? Does this work? Also i see in your available BIOS sticky theres an F13a BIOS available for the EP45-DQ6, should i try this one?

Are the other settings i tried ok for the moment then?

Sorry bout the influx of questions...and thanks again for your help.

1.45 in the BIOS is not 1.45 actual. You need to check with CPU-z what you get for that.

Are you overclocking at all? If not Auto will work. As for overclocking I would suggest 1.5 Actual as your highest safe voltage

That is normal to see a checksum value. It should always be 4 letters/numbers. If you see less or more do not flash and get a different copy of the file

Those beeps sound to me Like "Continues Short Beeps' Which I often get if ram timings are too tight or not enough voltage to something. So maybe more CPU Voltage depending on your overclock, less Vtt for sure. And maybe try 1.24-1.26 MCH

Is your ram 1.9V rated ram? If so try 2.0. If it is 2.1 ram then you should be using 2.1

Yes, you can flash any old or new BIOS. The one you asked about is Beta so just keep that in mind

I'll check with CPU-z when i can finally boot.

I am OC, or atleast trying to. As you can see from the settings above CPU frequency is at 3.0ghz (333 x 9) where as the usual for a Q6600 is 2.4 (266 x9)?

Is Vtt the Termination value? Ive tried it at 1.4v, what would you suggest?

Yeah continuous short beeps sounds right, makes a horrible racket and scared the crap outta me when it first happened....thought it was gonna explode or something!!.

The sticker on my ram states voltages as being 1.8-1.9. Will 2.0 be safe and is it reccommended?

Thanks for clearing up the checksum value thing, was a little worried.

    Cheers, Buz.

Maybe 1.35 for vtt, maybe less for only 333 FSB. But dont leave in Auto is why I suggested you set it. Boot in at stock to see your voltage difference.

Ya 2.0 would be safe, but 1.9 should work then as long as you are not overclocking the ram too hard or have to tight of timings
